Description
Orga Sabnak is a supporting antagonist in Mobile Suit Gundam Seed and also appears in Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Special Edition, the compilation of the series. He is a pilot in the Earth Alliance and one of three artificially enhanced soldiers known as Boosted Men, or Extended, who serve as biological CPUs for the Alliance's newest Gundam mobile suits. He operates the GAT-X131 Calamity Gundam, a heavy-artillery unit built for long-range bombardment. Orga is eighteen years old, classified as a Natural, and stands 173 centimeters tall. He has green hair cut to neck length and blue-green eyes, and he holds the rank of lieutenant in the Earth Alliance military.

As a biological CPU, Orga is treated by the military as a component of his mobile suit rather than as an ordinary pilot, and all of his personal data has been erased from official records so that nothing of his history or family is known. Among the three Boosted Men, he is the effective leader, though his enhancement level is the lowest of the group at Stage 2. Like his comrades, he depends on a maintenance drug called gamma-griepheptan, which sustains his combat abilities; when its effect wears off he suffers serious withdrawal symptoms, so he must take it continuously at set intervals. This dependency places him under the control of Muruta Azrael, the Blue Cosmos representative who holds the supply of the drug. Orga and the other Boosted Men dislike Azrael and resent their situation, but they follow his orders because their survival depends on him, not because they share his ideology or are unwilling to fight.

In ordinary situations Orga is quiet and comparatively the most mentally stable of the three. His main pastime between missions is reading paperback novels, particularly juvenile fiction, and he can become emotionally absorbed in their characters. When combat begins, however, his disposition changes sharply. He becomes highly aggressive and warlike, engaging in battle with an enjoyment that borders on pleasure, and he focuses entirely on destroying the enemy in front of him. This combat mindset makes him careless with his allies: he frequently fires the Calamity Gundam's heavy weapons even when the mobile suits of his teammates are in the line of fire, and he does not seem troubled when his shots graze or nearly strike them. He also tends to fire without regard for ammunition conservation, sometimes exhausting his energy reserves before the other two units.

Orga's motivations are shaped by his conditioning and his dependence on the drug rather than by personal conviction. He fights because he is a biological CPU whose life is tied to the medication supplied by his superiors, and because he derives satisfaction from combat itself. He has no real stake in the ideological conflict between Naturals and Coordinators; his actions are driven by the orders he receives and by the instinct to fight that his enhancement instills in him.

In the story, Orga is introduced in the later portion of the conflict as one of a three-pilot team fielded by the Earth Alliance, with Shani Andras in the Forbidden Gundam and Clotho Buer in the Raider Gundam operating alongside him. The team serves as a forceful threat in major battles, attacking ZAFT and Orb forces and putting the Archangel and its allies under heavy pressure. Orga acts as the trio's leader during these engagements. His role ends when he is killed in battle: Kira Yamato's Freedom Gundam and Athrun Zala's Justice Gundam, docked with Meteor support units, coordinate a combined attack that strikes the Calamity Gundam from behind with beam swords, destroying the suit and killing Orga.

His key relationships are with his two fellow Boosted Men and with his handler Muruta Azrael. He operates as part of a team with Shani and Clotho, and compared with the other two he tends to show a degree of camaraderie, yet his battle conduct shows little concern for their safety. Toward Azrael his attitude is one of reluctant subordination: he despises the man who controls his medication but obeys him out of necessity. Against Kira and Athrun he is an adversary, and their combined assault brings about his end.

Orga undergoes little personal development over the course of the story, functioning mainly as a dangerous obstacle introduced to raise the stakes of the later battles. The clearest contrast in his portrayal is between his calm, bookish behavior outside combat and his violent, pleasure-seeking aggression inside the cockpit. His death concludes his role without any turn toward redemption, leaving him as a figure defined primarily by the dehumanizing program that created him.

As a fighter, Orga possesses the enhanced reflexes, coordination, and endurance of a Boosted Man, which allow him to pilot a Gundam effectively as a living control system. His combat style centers on aggressive, high-output bombardment using the Calamity Gundam's extensive firepower at long and medium range, favoring overwhelming fire over precision and conservation. This approach makes him a formidable opponent at a distance, but also a hazard to his own side, since he will willingly fire through or near the positions of his teammates to reach an enemy.
