Nicol Amarfi is a young ZAFT pilot and the youngest member of the Le Creuset Team, first appearing during the attack on the neutral space colony Heliopolis. As a Coordinator, he was born in Cosmic Era 57 and stands 165 centimeters tall. His father holds a seat on the PLANT Supreme Council, a fact that does not shield Nicol from the burdens of war. In contrast to his more aggressive teammates, Nicol is a kind, gentle, and open-hearted individual who carries himself with a dignified demeanor. He is a reluctant soldier who feels genuine sympathy for the casualties of conflict, a sentimental nature that earns him the contempt of comrades such as Yzak Joule and Dearka Elsman, who dismiss him as weak or cowardly.

Despite his youth and gentle personality, Nicol is a capable pilot and a graduate of ZAFT's military academy. During the raid on Heliopolis, he adapts the operating system of the captured GAT-X207 Blitz Gundam and later pilots it in combat, utilizing its Mirage Colloid stealth system to aid ZAFT operations, including helping to breach the Umbrella of Artemis. His role is that of a supporting fighter, serving primarily alongside the flagship Vesalius. Among his teammates, he shares a particularly close bond with Athrun Zala, looking up to him like an older brother and often acting as a voice of reason and compassion within the group.

Nicol also loves playing the piano and has a reflective, musical side that underscores his longing for peace. His development is cut short when, in an attempt to shield Athrun from a critical attack, he is killed, his Blitz Gundam destroyed in battle. His death profoundly impacts Athrun, fueling a vengeful desire to kill the Strike pilot, Kira Yamato, and serving as a turning point that deepens Athrun's growing disillusionment with the war. Nicol's sacrifice highlights the human cost of the conflict and leaves a lasting emotional weight on those who survive him.
