Mikaze Honjyo is the central protagonist of Stratos 4, a sixteen-year-old candidate pilot assigned to Shimoji Island Base. She comes from a distinguished family with a strong piloting tradition, but she initially shows no interest in following that path, instead displaying a slacker attitude and underachieving in her duties. She works both as a Meteor Sweeper, tasked with defending Earth from falling meteor fragments, and as a waitress at the Kouchin restaurant. She shares a room with her close friends and teammates Shizuha Doi, Ayamo Nakamura, and Karin Kikuhara. Mikaze's primary motivation is her dream of voyaging into space and becoming a Comet Blaster, the elite space-based pilots, though she must start at the lowest rank and work her way up. Over the course of the story, she gradually learns the importance of piloting and responsibility, evolving from a disinterested novice into a capable and determined pilot. She plays a key role in uncovering a government conspiracy involving alien lifeforms known as Star Seeds, which can control human minds, leading her and her friends to sneak aboard a transport rocket to rescue Karin from Orbital Station 7. Together, they pilot Comet Blaster spacecraft to successfully intercept a massive comet threatening Earth. In the later OVA series, she continues to defend the planet alongside her comrades in critical missions. Mikaze possesses strong piloting skills that develop significantly through her experiences, and she is shown to be resourceful and brave when her friends or the world are in danger.
