Description
Hydra King is the leader of the Underground Space Chojin, also known as the Underground Chojin, and the lord of Planet Hydra. His primary motivation is to defeat the Idol Chojin, the heroes of the series, by exploiting their individual weaknesses. To accomplish this, he orchestrates a plan to first kidnap the hero Robin Mask and then steal a notebook where Robin had documented the weak points of all the Idol Chojin.
In terms of personality, Hydra King is depicted as a brutal and evil character who possesses a deep, almost obsessive love for fighting. This passion for battle is his favorite thing in the world, and he is known to abandon a meal halfway through just to rush into a fight. He is also short-tempered and prone to losing his cool, often striking his own henchmen in frustration. His anger is frequently triggered by the antics of the main protagonist, Kinnikuman, or by his own foolish decisions, which can make him appear more like an angry fool than a cunning mastermind. Physically, he has a bulky and muscular constitution with green skin and wears armor that is primarily black and red. A notable feature is the yellow jewel on his forehead, which serves as his critical weak spot.
In the story of the film Counterattack! The Underground Space Chojin, Hydra King serves as the main antagonist. After his subordinates successfully kidnap Robin Mask and steal the notebook, he challenges the Idol Chojin to come to Planet Hydra to rescue their friend. He also revives several of the heroes' former enemies, including Ashuraman, Sunshine, Black Hole, and Black Rain, bolstering his forces to fight against them. He prepares arenas designed to confront each hero with their recorded weakness. However, the plan backfires when it is revealed that the "weaknesses" were not physical vulnerabilities but rather things the heroes personally liked, which only serve to motivate them rather than hinder them. When this scheme fails, an enraged Hydra King sends his entire army to attack the Idol Chojin directly.
Key relationships define his role as the leader of the Underground Space Chojin, commanding subordinates like Hydra Buton. He also has a relationship with his revived warriors, who he uses as powerful pawns against the Idol Chojin, including Terryman, Ramenman, Brocken Jr., and Warsman. His primary antagonists are, of course, the assembled Idol Chojin, with his final confrontation being against Kinnikuman. Regarding his development, Hydra King does not undergo a significant personal transformation. Instead, his arc is that of a villain whose cunning plan falls apart due to a critical misunderstanding of the information he stole. He ultimately meets his end in battle. In a final effort, the captive Robin Mask fires a laser from his helmet that pinpoints Hydra King's forehead weak spot. The assembled Idol Chojin then combine their strength to perform a technique called the Chojin Southern Cross, which allows Kinnikuman to finish him off with his signature move, the Kinniku Driver, causing Hydra King to explode.
Hydra King possesses abilities inherent to a Chojin, including superhuman strength, speed, and durability. Like others of his kind, he can also grow to the size of a building and fly, even in the vacuum of space.
