Description
Monson Maeda is the father of Fujio, Taison, and Youko Maeda, and serves as the priest of Shourinji Temple. His son Taison regards him as the strongest father in the world. Despite being in his fifties, Monson possesses extraordinary physical condition: a grip strength of ninety kilograms, a punching power of two hundred kilograms, the ability to perform one thousand consecutive push‑ups including sixty with only his thumbs, and enough agility and endurance to run from Tokyo to Osaka in sandals. He is also notably robust, having left the hospital just days after being struck by a truck. His favorite technique is a roundhouse kick, which he taught directly to Taison and which he himself uses with devastating effect. When he first came to Tokyo, he effortlessly defeated a thug who picked a fight with him using that same kick. His major weakness is a strong aversion to doctors. In his youth, Monson was the first leader of the Kyokuto High School gang and established the tradition of vigilante leaders at that school, making him an elder statesman among later generations such as Tatsuyoshi. Although his actions can be reckless and unreasonable for a man of faith, he holds himself to a strict personal moral code. He once harshly disciplined his own son Fujio for swindling women, and he laments that Kyokuto High School, where his younger brothers study, has fallen under the control of an evil gang leader. Within the story of Rokudenashi Blues 1993, Monson’s reported illness serves as the catalyst that brings Taison and his brothers back to their hometown in the Kansai region during their class field trip, highlighting his role as the family’s moral anchor and a symbol of overwhelming physical strength.
