Description
Emperor Zule, also spelled Zuul or Zul, is the supreme ruler of the planet Gishin and the primary antagonist of the series. His empire, based on a small planet with depleted resources, seeks to conquer the galaxy, which brings him into direct conflict with Earth as humanity begins to expand into space in the year 1999. To eliminate this emerging threat, Zule devises a long-term plan of destruction. He sends an infant, the son of one of his scientists, to Earth alongside a giant robot named Gaia. The robot is powered by an energy source potent enough to destroy an entire planet, and it is designed to detonate automatically should the child, whom he names Mars, ever die. Zule’s intention is for the boy to grow up on Earth, unaware of his origins, and eventually activate the bomb. However, the plan backfires when the child is adopted by a loving family, given the name Takeru Myojin, and develops a deep affection for humanity, ultimately refusing to carry out his mission.

Zule’s personality is defined by tyranny, narcissism, and an insatiable desire for universal domination. He presents himself as a physical god, a malevolent entity of immense power who has observed humanity's conflicts with boredom and disgust, viewing them as justification for his conquest. As an emperor, he is utterly intolerant of failure and will readily abandon or destroy his subordinates for their mistakes. His primary motivation is not merely destruction, but the total expansion of his empire's glory. He is cunning and manipulative, preferring to orchestrate grand, destructive schemes from a distance rather than engaging directly, often using others as pawns.

In the story, Zule serves as the mastermind who sets the central conflict in motion. He is the force responsible for creating the tragic bond between the twin brothers, Takeru (Mars) and Marg. After Takeru rejects his offer to rule the universe by his side, Zule grooms Marg, Takeru’s long-lost twin, to become his ultimate weapon. He brainwashes Marg and places a manipulative female agent named Rose by his side, effectively pitting brother against brother in a devastating war. Zule’s key relationships are defined by control and deception. His second-in-command, Wahl, schemes against him for personal power, showcasing the treacherous nature of Zule's court. Furthermore, Zule is known for employing decoys and clones. Early confrontations with Takeru often result in the apparent death of Zule, only for it to be revealed as a puppet or a clone, while the real emperor remains safely hidden, orchestrating events from the shadows.

Throughout the narrative, Zule demonstrates considerable development in his methods, though his core nature remains fixed. When faced with Takeru’s persistent defiance, he grows increasingly paranoid and obsessed with eliminating the God Mars robot and its pilot, even at the expense of his own planet's well-being. In a significant turn of events, the very bomb meant to destroy Earth is magically transferred into Zule himself, leading to his apparent destruction in an explosion in space. Despite this, he is a persistent threat, later revealed to have cheated death or used another puppet ruler, returning to challenge Takeru again in the series' final arc with a new army.

Emperor Zule possesses a vast array of extraordinary abilities befitting a cosmic tyrant. He is a powerful psychic, capable of sending telepathic transmissions across star systems to communicate with individuals who have ESP. He can alter his size, growing from a large human to a stature taller than the giant robot God Mars. His offensive powers are formidable; he can generate destructive lightning storms even in the vacuum of space, fire concentrated ESP beams from his hands, eyes, and mouth, and emit powerful electric shockwaves from his body. For defense and deception, he wears a regenerative armored cape that provides high resistance to energy and mental attacks, and he can create functional clones of himself. He can even create a pocket dimension known as the Nebula Dimension to trap his enemies. These abilities, combined with his intelligence and ruthless ambition, solidify his role as an overwhelming force of evil.
