Description
Emperor Geldon is the primary antagonist of the 1976 anime series Groizer X, serving as the tyrannical ruler of the alien forces from the planet Gailar (also referred to as Gaira or Gailler). His backstory is rooted in a failed expedition; the Gailarians crash-landed on Earth and entered a state of hibernation in the Arctic, waiting for rescue. When human nuclear tests disrupted their systems and awoke them, Geldon seized the opportunity. He eliminated his opposition, assassinated the legitimate sovereign, and declared himself emperor, setting his sights on conquering Earth as a new home for his people.

In terms of personality, Geldon is depicted as a ruthless and malevolent despot. He rules with an iron fist, showing no regard for loyalty or life, and is willing to eliminate anyone who stands in his way, including his own followers if they fail him. His primary motivation is the establishment of the Gailarian empire on Earth. His plan for conquest centers on a super-advanced battleship called Groizer X, which he commissions from the brilliant Professor Yan. However, the professor secretly opposes Geldon's tyranny and arranges for his daughter, Rita, to steal the ship and defect to the humans, turning the emperor's ultimate weapon into the primary obstacle to his plans.

Throughout the series, Geldon's role is to command the invasion of Earth from his base of operations. He directs a campaign of terror against humanity, primarily by sending a series of destructive bomb robots to attack cities, starting with Japan. He operates from a gigantic, indestructible flying fortress named Gelmos, which serves as the command center from which his forces launch their assaults. To aid him, Geldon commands a hierarchy of subordinates. These include the loyal General Daggar and the treacherous Marshal Dogus, a being with a hypnotic eye in his hand, as well as the scientist Golem, who is responsible for creating the bomb robots. The emperor represents the direct threat against which the protagonists, pilot Joe Kaisaka and copilot Rita, must constantly fight.

Over the course of the story, Emperor Geldon shows little to no redeeming development, remaining a steadfast and uncompromising villain driven by ambition and conquest. He does not undergo a redemption arc or reveal hidden depths, instead serving as a persistent force of destruction that must be opposed. His eventual fate is a violent end; in the series finale, he is killed, bringing his campaign of terror to a close and allowing for a bittersweet peace. As a leader, his notable abilities are not in physical combat but in his strategic command, his control over an empire of technologically advanced alien warriors, and his authority to deploy a near-endless supply of robotic weapons. He also commands the Gelmos fortress, which itself is a powerful asset capable of launching devastating attacks before it is ultimately destroyed by the Groizer X.
