Description
Nanashi is the protagonist of the anime film Sword of the Stranger. His name, which translates to nameless, reflects his unknown origins and his deliberate choice to erase his identity after a traumatic past. As a child, he was the sole survivor of a shipwreck and washed ashore in Japan with no memory of his original name or birthplace. He is naturally a foreigner with red hair, but he dyes it black to avoid the prejudice and suspicion directed at outsiders in the war-torn Sengoku period.
His background as a ronin is forged in violence. Because of his status as an outsider, he was used by various Japanese warlords to carry out brutal acts.
