Description
Claude Mizusawa is first encountered as a member of the traffic division in Neo Tokyo, the futuristic setting of the year 2050. His life changes one stormy night when a boy displaced from the year 1983 crashes into his patrol car. Though the boy loses his memory due to the time slip, Claude takes responsibility for him, protecting him from an attack by the criminal empire known as Necrime. After this incident, both Claude and the boy, who is given the new name Ryu Urashima, are recruited to work for a special mobile police station created specifically to combat Necrime's activities.
Within the Mobile Machine Branch Station Magna Police 38, Claude serves as a cynical and pragmatic detective who often acts as a seasoned foil to his new partner. His personality is frequently described as that of a womanizer, carrying a somewhat jaded and world-weary attitude that contrasts sharply with Ryu's initial bewilderment. Despite his tendency to trifle with Ryu for his lack of knowledge about the future world, Claude proves himself to be a capable and reliable ally. He is an elite officer who, though he may complain, consistently provides crucial support to his inexperienced colleague as Ryu learns to navigate his new reality and develops into a formidable cop.
As a central member of the main trio, Claude's primary motivation is his duty as a police officer to uphold the law and dismantle the operations of Necrime. He shares a close professional bond with his teammate Sophia Nina Rose, a former nun who also joined the unit after their initial encounter with Necrime. His relationship with Ryu Urashima evolves from one of reluctant caretaker to genuine partnership, as Ryu’s formidable fighting spirit and inherent sense of justice gradually win Claude's respect. Claude takes on the role of an older brother or mentor, grounding Ryu with his experience in the futuristic metropolis while occasionally being surprised by the young man's instincts and abilities.
In terms of abilities, Claude is a skilled fighter equipped for direct confrontation with the criminals of Neo Tokyo. He is trained in the use of a standard-issue pistol, which serves as his primary weapon. For defensive purposes and more dangerous missions, he can equip a removable protective gear piece referred to as a Battle Protector. Unlike his partner Ryu, who gained supernatural powers through the time travel phenomenon known as the Urashima Effect, Claude relies entirely on his sharp instincts, combat training, and professional experience as a future police officer. His pragmatic approach and street smarts make him an invaluable asset to the Magna Police 38 in their ongoing war against the Necrime empire.
