Description
In the anime film "Case Closed: The Last Wizard of the Century," Kid Kat, whose real identity is the high school student Kaito Kuroba, serves as the enigmatic phantom thief Kaitou Kid. He is a 17-year-old master of illusion and disguise who operates under the moniker of a gentleman thief, known for his distinctive white top hat, matching suit, and monocle. The character is driven by a personal and dangerous quest. After discovering that his father, the original Kaitou Kid, was murdered by a mysterious organization, Kaito took on the thieving persona to lure them out. His primary goal is to find a legendary gemstone called Pandora, which the organization seeks for its power to grant immortality, and his intention is to destroy it.

In this specific film, Kid Kat announces his intention to steal the "Memories Egg," a valuable Fabergé Easter egg from the Romanov dynasty. His role in the story extends beyond that of a simple thief. While he seeks to obtain the egg, he also becomes an unexpected ally to the protagonist, Conan Edogawa. Kid ultimately helps Conan and his allies investigate a series of murders connected to the egg and protect the treasure from a dangerous assassin known as Scorpion. A key moment in the film's development is that Kid successfully deduces Conan's true identity as the teen detective Shinichi Kudo, having overheard incriminating conversations and observed Conan's deductive abilities. This discovery establishes a unique dynamic between the rival characters, built on mutual respect and secrets.

Personality-wise, Kid Kat is a compulsive trickster and a showman who thrives on the challenge of a heist. He is known for his overconfident and arrogant attitude, yet he possesses a clear sense of honor and a deep disdain for seeing others hurt. He is charming and charismatic, often using his skills to captivate an audience, including the police who attempt to capture him. In "The Last Wizard of the Century," his key relationships include his rivalry with Conan, whom he aids, and his enduring conflict with Inspector Ginzo Nakamori, who is determined to arrest him. His relationship with Conan is particularly notable; he not only protects Conan at several points but also, at the end of the film, disguises himself as Shinichi Kudo as a favor to help Conan maintain his secret identity. This action highlights Kid's complex nature, blurring the line between antagonist and ally.

Kid Kat possesses a range of remarkable abilities that make him a formidable phantom thief. He is a master of disguise, capable of flawlessly impersonating almost anyone, including Conan's friend Ran Mouri and even Conan himself. His natural resemblance to Shinichi Kudo allows him to impersonate the detective without the need for a mask. He is also an exceptionally skilled magician, inheriting his talents from his father. His signature gadgets include a white cape that functions as a hang glider for aerial escapes and a card gun that fires sharp, metallic playing cards capable of disarming opponents. Although the film does not deeply explore his personal development, his choice to assist Conan and return the egg to its rightful owners reinforces that, despite his criminal label, Kid adheres to a personal moral code and is a character of considerable depth and honor.
