OVA
Description
Geist, designated MD-02, is the central figure of the story and is known as the Most Dangerous Soldier. He is a genetically engineered human created through a scientific process called Bioclone theory, designed to surpass all other soldiers in combat. Originally serving as the commander of the Jerra Regular Army's special forces on the planet Jerra, Geist was so overwhelmingly ferocious in battle that his own military leaders deemed him uncontrollable and placed him in suspended animation inside a stasis satellite orbiting the planet. After several years, the satellite crashed back onto Jerra, awakening him to a world still consumed by war.
Geist's personality is defined by a complete lack of conventional human emotion or social attachment. He is stoic, quiet, and speaks very little, preferring to let his actions speak for themselves. He shows no desire for companionship, affection, or leadership beyond what serves his immediate purposes. His primary drive is an insatiable lust for battle and destruction, and he appears to be driven almost entirely by his core programming as a weapon. This programming overrides any remaining shred of humanity, making him less of a character with a personal arc and more of an implacable force of nature. He strictly follows commands that he deems feasible, but he is not loyal to any faction and will act according to his own lethal logic.
His motivation is not tied to ideology, survival, or protecting others. Instead, Geist seems compelled to fight and destroy, especially targeting the Death Force machines that he himself unleashed. In the second OVA, his singular purpose is to dismantle the self-replicating Death Force units one by one, treating the eradication of these machines as his ongoing mission. He shows no interest in the remnants of humanity or their efforts to rebuild, and he does not seek to be a hero or a savior.
In the story of Death Force, Geist acts as an antithesis to the organized resistance of the surviving human population. While the survivors have rallied behind the warlord Krauser, who offers them protection and a plan to destroy the Death Force with a bomb, Geist follows his own path. He initially encounters Krauser, another genetically engineered Most Dangerous Soldier and a precursor to Geist himself, and is thrown from Krauser's fortress after a brief fight. Later, Geist re-emerges and, disregarding the human plan, deliberately leads the Death Force machines toward Krauser's mobile fortress. This action results in the destruction of Krauser's commandos and most of the refugees, while Geist confronts Krauser in hand-to-hand combat and ultimately kills him. The final image of Geist's empty helmet suggests that his existence has become purely mechanical and detached from any human identity.
Key relationships in his life are marked by a lack of emotional connection. Paia, a female bandit from the first OVA, is attracted to his strength and follows him, but Geist shows no reciprocal interest and values her only for her knowledge of the armies. Colonel Crutes, an officer of the Regular Army, attempts to use Geist as a tool but also tries to kill him, failing in the attempt. The most significant relationship in Death Force is with Krauser, his genetic predecessor. Unlike Geist, Krauser requires regular restoration treatments because his Bioclone cells are less stable, and he has taken on the role of a savior for humanity. Their conflict is not ideological but existential, as Geist's programming cannot tolerate another being who stands as an obstacle to his destructive purpose.
Geist undergoes no meaningful character development across the story. He begins as a cold, lethal weapon and remains the same at the end. His actions do not result from growth or change but from the consistent application of his innate nature. He is the same force at the conclusion as he was at the beginning, having eliminated both the Death Force machines and the human resistance led by Krauser.
Notable abilities include superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, and endurance, all products of his genetic engineering. He is a master of hand-to-hand combat and a highly effective fighter even without equipment. He also customizes and modifies a powered suit that he acquires early in the first OVA, further enhancing his combat capabilities. He is able to survive situations that would kill ordinary soldiers, and he demonstrates a high tolerance for injury and an ability to continue fighting regardless of damage. His strategic instincts and adaptability make him a nearly unstoppable combatant, capable of facing entire groups of enemies and advanced security robots alone. His presence alone is enough to alter the course of the conflict on Jerra, as he single-handedly influences the fate of both the Death Force machines and the surviving human factions.
