Description
Minato Haruka appears in the film Martian Successor Nadesico: The Motion Picture - Prince of Darkness as a returning member of the Nadesico crew, serving as a helmswoman aboard the Nadesico B. Prior to joining the original Nadesico, she worked as a corporate secretary before quitting to become the ship's navigator. Her personality blends a lighthearted, sometimes flirtatious exterior with genuine compassion. She is notably one of the few crew members who consistently reaches out to the reserved young genius Ruri Hoshino, affectionately calling her Ruri-Ruri in an effort to draw her out. Minato's motivations are often driven by a desire for romantic connection, but she also demonstrates a strong sense of responsibility and caring. Early in the series she pursues a relationship with the scientist Goat Hory, though it ends poorly. Later she becomes involved with the Jovian ambassador Tsukumo Shiratori, introducing him to human emotional and physical intimacy. After his assassination, Minato adopts his younger sister Yukina Shiratori, raising the girl as her own. This act marks a significant turning point in her development, moving her from a seemingly shallow romantic seeker to a devoted maternal figure. In the movie, set two years after the television series, she continues in her role as helmsman, though the ship's advanced computer Omoikane handles routine navigation, meaning her expertise is most critical during battle or crisis situations. Her growth is reflected in her steadier demeanor and the deepening of her bond with Yukina.
