TV-Series
Description
Bíblia, also known as Superbook, is the central magical object and namesake of the anime series. It is depicted as a large, mysterious book that is, in essence, the Holy Bible brought to life. Its cover is often shown as dark or black, and it possesses the supernatural ability to glow, speak, and open itself of its own accord. The true origin of the book and when it was created are never explained within the series, although its nature is implied to be divine. In one episode, the biblical figure John the Revelator suggests that its method of transporting people is similar to how the Spirit of God gave him visions, and the character Satan visibly reacts with discomfort when the book is mentioned by name.
As an entity, the Superbook has a patient, wise, and guiding personality. It does not act as a playful companion but rather as a solemn mentor and a powerful artifact. Its motivations are consistently benevolent and pedagogical. The Superbook seeks to teach important moral, spiritual, and life lessons derived from scripture. It guides the child protagonists not by simply giving answers, but by immersing them directly in the context of biblical narratives so they can learn from witnessing historical events firsthand. The primary goal of the book is to show how the lessons of the Bible are applicable to modern-day challenges like bullying, disobedience, seeking revenge, or lacking courage.
The role of Bíblia in the story is to serve as a catalyst for adventure and a vehicle for education. Whenever the main characters face a dilemma they cannot solve, the Superbook activates, often glowing and opening to a specific page. It then transports the children—and their robotic companion—back in time to a period corresponding to a relevant Bible story. The children witness the events, interact with biblical figures such as David, Jesus, Ruth, or Paul, and observe the consequences of choices made by those characters. After the biblical event concludes, the Superbook returns the group to their present time, allowing them to apply the principle they just learned to resolve their original problem.
The Superbook has key relationships with the main cast, though these connections differ in depth. It communicates directly with the three young protagonists: Chris (Luis), Joy (Anita), and the robot Gizmo (Tuercas). This secret is kept from Chris's father, Professor Pepper, who remains unaware of the book's magical properties. Among the group, the Superbook seems to treat the children as students needing instruction. While the Superbook is the source of wisdom, the robot Gizmo often serves as the practical, mechanical aid during the journeys, theoretically making the duo of book and robot complementary forces. Throughout the various reboots and seasons, the development of the Superbook itself remains static in terms of personality; it does not grow or change because it is already a complete and perfect source of divine knowledge. However, its role expands in later seasons as the scenarios become more complex, covering deeper theological concepts such as the fall of Lucifer and the book of Revelation.
Regarding its abilities, the Superbook has several notable powers. Its primary ability is time travel, allowing it to transport individuals across different eras to witness biblical events from both the Old and New Testaments. It possesses sentience, as it can speak directly to the children to guide them or offer context for their journeys. It also exhibits selective visibility or awareness; it chooses to reveal its powers only to the children, remaining a seemingly ordinary book to adults like Chris's father. While generally an observer, the Superbook dictates the parameters of the adventure, determining when the journey begins, which story is visited, and when the travelers return home.
