TV-Series
Description
Leader X is the alien artificial intelligence that serves as the supreme commander of the criminal syndicate Galactor. Originating from the planet Selectoru, this entity traveled to Earth with the intent of conquering it. To further its goals, Leader X restructured Galactor from a minor mafia into a global terrorist organization, equipping it with advanced technology and monstrous mecha. Leader X is technically neuter in form but possesses a male-coded personality that is marked by extreme cruelty, arrogance, and a complete lack of empathy. It readily discards subordinates who fail or become useless. Its driving motivation is the subjugation of Earth and the destruction or domination of humanity, viewing the planet as a resource to be taken for its own kind.

In the story, Leader X operates from the shadows, rarely appearing directly. Its primary agent is Berg Katse, a genetically engineered being created by Leader X by fusing male and female twins into a single gender-shifting entity, whom Leader X treats as an adoptive son and field commander. Throughout the original series, Leader X orchestrates countless attacks on the International Science Organization and the Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. After being defeated by the team, Leader X returns in a new form in the sequel series Gatchaman II, seeking vengeance against both the team and the planet Proxima. At the end of that series, Leader X is seemingly destroyed, but a surviving fragment mutates into a new entity known as Leader Z in the subsequent series Gatchaman Fighter, continuing its campaign of conquest.

Notable abilities of Leader X include its advanced alien technology, the capacity to create and command powerful mecha and mutants, and its nature as a resilient artificial intelligence that can survive physical destruction. Its existence as an AI allows it to persist beyond the death of a single body, regenerate, or evolve into new forms. Leader X’s role is that of the ultimate hidden antagonist, whose influence drives the entire conflict of the Gatchaman series.
