Description
Adrian Seidelman is the male alter ego of Cybersix, a genetically engineered being who escaped the destruction of her series. During the day, she lives as Adrian, a quiet and unassuming literature teacher at a high school in the fictional South American city of Meridiana. By night, she sheds this disguise to become the leather-clad, caped hero known as Cybersix, patrolling the city’s rooftops and fighting the monstrous creations of her creator. Her real name comes from the "Cyber 6" tattoo on her arm, marking her as the sixth in a line of artificial humanoids.
Her background is rooted in tragedy and escape. Cybersix was created by the brilliant but insane Dr. Von Reichter, a former Nazi scientist who fled to South America to continue his experiments in genetic engineering and cybernetics. She was part of a series of five thousand beings designed to be perfect servants, but they developed free will and disobeyed their creator. In response, Von Reichter ordered the destruction of all but two of them. Cybersix survived the cull with outside help and fled to Meridiana, while her brother, Cyber 29, died in an accident, only to have his brain transplanted into the body of a black panther, becoming the creature known as Data 7. To hide from Von Reichter, who would be searching for a woman, she assumed the identity of a deceased boy named Adrian Seidelman, whose body she discovered at the scene of a car crash.
In her personal life, Cybersix is defined by a profound loneliness and a deep yearning for humanity. Despite her superhuman abilities, she constantly questions her own nature and what it means to be human. This internal conflict is a core part of her character, as she navigates the world as both a male teacher and a female superhero, never fully belonging to either identity. As Adrian, she is reserved and keeps to himself, forming a close friendship with biology teacher Lucas Amato, who is unaware of his best friend’s secret identity. As Cybersix, she is more confident and assertive, yet she remains emotionally vulnerable, struggling with her dependence on a mysterious life-giving fluid called Sustenance and the trauma of her origins.
Her primary motivation is survival, but this quickly evolves into a sense of heroic duty. Like all of Von Reichter’s creations, Cybersix requires Sustenance to live, and she obtains it by hunting and draining it from the very monsters her creator sends to destroy her. In the animated series, this process is less vampiric than in the original comics, with the creatures evaporating and leaving a vial of the fluid behind. Her role in the story is that of a protector of Meridiana, thwarting the schemes of Von Reichter and his obnoxious clone son, José, who often carries out the Doctor’s evil plans. She acts as a guardian figure, not only for the city but also for a young street orphan named Julian, who becomes part of her makeshift family.
Key relationships shape her development throughout the series. The most significant is with Data 7, the intelligent black panther who is initially sent to kill her but instead recognizes her as his sister and becomes her loyal companion. This reunion gives Cybersix a connection to her past and a sense of familial bond she thought she had lost forever. Her relationship with Lucas Amato also deepens over time, evolving from a friendship to a romantic interest. Lucas is drawn to both Adrian’s intellect and Cybersix’s bravery, creating a complex dynamic as he remains unaware they are the same person. By the series’ end, Cybersix begins to build a found family around her, finding a place of belonging and connection that contrasts sharply with her lonely existence at the beginning of the story.
Cybersix possesses a notable array of abilities derived from her genetic engineering. She has superhuman strength, allowing her to carry a full-grown man with one hand, and superhuman agility and acrobatic skills that let her leap between buildings and traverse the city with ease. Her reflexes are similarly enhanced, and she has excellent night vision, able to see clearly in darkness. She also has the ability to identify other genetically engineered beings with just a glance at their eyes. Her costume, a black bodysuit with a long red-lined cape and a wide-brimmed hat, aids her in her nocturnal activities; the cape can help her glide or provide cover in shadows, and her hat is said to be receptive to special signals and distant sounds. Despite her powers, she is not invincible and relies on her wits, her teaching credentials in literature, and her understanding of genetics to survive and fight another day.
