Description
Bobby Bear is one of the main characters in the anime Maple Town Stories. He is a young anthropomorphic brown bear who is a resident of Maple Town, where his family runs the town's general store. Bobby is the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Bear and has three younger brothers, whose names are Billy, Buddy, and Bertie. In the English version of the series, he also has a three-year-old sister named Bonny.

Physically, Bobby is recognizable by his brown fur and a soft, triangular black nose. He has tan inner ears and a sand-colored muzzle. His typical outfit consists of a red and white striped shirt paired with blue overalls and orange-brown shoes, though some depictions show him barefoot. In the Maple Town Stories movie, his appearance varies slightly, as he is seen wearing yellow-green overalls and a straw hat.

In terms of personality, Bobby is cheerful, caring, and full of a sense of adventure, though he can also be quite stubborn. He is a native of Maple Town and is best known as the best friend and boyfriend of Patty Rabbit, the series' protagonist. He and Patty meet for the first time when her family arrives in town, and their friendship quickly becomes a central part of his daily life. Despite his good nature, Bobby has a strong aversion to studying and schoolwork, and he often skips class in favor of spending time outdoors. His true passions lie in exploring the wilderness, where he enjoys activities such as catching insects and fishing.

His motivations are often tied to his love for adventure and his loyalty to his friends, particularly Patty. He frequently joins her in exploring the areas around Maple Town and in getting out of trouble caused by the town's resident thief, Wilde Wolf. His role in the story is that of a deuteragonist; he is a key figure in the community of children and an active participant in the various adventures and everyday challenges they face. He is physically strong and resourceful, with notable abilities including building sleds and crafting fishing rods. However, he is notably unskilled at knitting and other domestic tasks.

Bobby's most significant relationship is with Patty Rabbit, which begins with their first encounter and deepens into a close, lasting friendship. At home, he interacts with his parents, who run the general store and expect him to help with chores and responsibilities. He is often tasked with looking after his three younger brothers, a duty he greatly dislikes and frequently tries to avoid. This family dynamic is a common source of minor conflict and comedy, as he often attempts to run off on adventures rather than polish silver spoons or watch over his siblings.

Throughout the series, Bobby experiences development primarily in his sense of responsibility. While he starts as a boy who tries to evade chores like polishing silver spoons and caring for his brothers, episodes centered on him show that he ultimately accepts his duties and works to make things right with his parents after his mischief leads to trouble. His character embodies a balance of free-spirited adventure and the growing understanding of his role within his family and the wider community of Maple Town.
