Description
Fannie Fox, also known in some versions as Fanny Fox or Diana, is one of the main child characters in the anime Maple Town Stories. She is an eight-year-old fox who attends Maple Town School and counts Patty Rabbit and Bobby Bear among her closest friends. Her family is one of the wealthiest in Maple Town, with her parents being Fredrick and Florence Fox; she also has a sibling named Freddy Fox.
In terms of appearance, Fannie is characterized by her orange and light yellow fur, complete with a bushy tail that has a distinctive light yellow tip. She typically wears a blue and white dress accented with a yellow ribbon on its capelet and a darker blue stripe on the lower half, paired with white buckled shoes. Her debut episode, The Stolen Necklace, featured a different wardrobe that included a pearl necklace and a light blue hair bow.
Fannie has a notably strong-willed and complex personality. She often appears bossy, stubborn, fussy, and selfish, traits she is said to have inherited from her mother. Because her family is the richest in town, she can act as though she is superior to others, which sometimes leads her to be domineering or unkind. For instance, she has called Danny Dog a scaredy-cat for his fears and has stepped on Suzie Squirrel's tail. Despite these flaws, she is not portrayed as a villain. Her character is generally good-hearted, and she remains an accepted and respected member of the community, with her friends standing by her.
While her snooty and bratty behavior is a primary facet of her personality, she also possesses a more caring side. At times, she can be proactive and blunt, not afraid to speak her mind, though the narrative primarily focuses on her more challenging traits as a source of minor conflict within the group. Within the story, Fannie is a central figure alongside Patty and Bobby, often joining them in their adventures and in dealing with the mischief caused by the thief Wild Wolf. Her role is to be a friend who, despite her difficult moments, is an integral part of the main cast of children. There is no widely available information detailing a significant character arc or any notable special abilities for Fannie Fox beyond her role as a student and member of the community.
