Non is a young witch from the Witch World and the chief rival of Megu Kanzaki. She is introduced as a cold, almost emotionless being who is extremely proud of her intellect and magical abilities. Non is one of the contenders for the throne of the magic realm, and as part of her training she is sent to live on Earth, where she is adopted by the Gou family. From her first encounter with Megu, Non displays a ruthless determination to eliminate her competition, even attempting to murder her. Throughout the series, Non continually challenges Megu, using both magic and her sharp wits. She is depicted as a cool beauty with blue skin and blue hair, and she excels in both academics and athletics, looking down on humans and considering them inferior. Over time, however, Non’s rigid attitude begins to shift as she witnesses Megu’s courage and compassion. She develops a grudging respect for her rival, and on several occasions she joins forces with Megu to fight greater threats, such as the demonic queen Saturn and her henchman Chou-san. Despite this, true friendship never forms between them. Non remains a distant, reserved character whose primary motivation is to prove herself worthy of the crown and to assert her superiority. Her personality and role as the cool, powerful rival set a precedent for later magical girl anime. She possesses strong magical abilities and is shown to be a formidable opponent in both magical combat and physical challenges. Her development is subtle, moving from outright hostility to a reluctant mutual understanding with Megu, but she never fully abandons her competitive drive.
