Description
Megu is the protagonist of the anime series Majokko Megu-chan. She is a young witch from the magic realm who is sent to Earth as part of a rite-of-passage initiation to qualify for the throne of the Witch World. Upon her arrival, she is adopted by Mami Kanzaki, a former witch who gave up her royal ambitions to marry a human. Mami uses her magic to make her husband and their two children, Rabi and Apo, believe that Megu has always been the eldest child of the family. Under Mami's guidance, Megu lives with the Kanzaki family and learns to navigate human society while controlling her magical abilities and impulses.

Megu begins the story as a willful, impulsive, and somewhat selfish girl who knows very little about human relationships. She is a tomboy at heart, energetic and prone to physical confrontations with her school bully and her younger siblings. Despite her rough edges, she possesses a strong sense of justice and a growing capacity for compassion. As the series progresses, Megu encounters emotions she had never experienced before, such as loneliness, grief, love, desperation, and self-sacrifice. Through various trials and encounters with monsters, demons, and rival sorcerers, she matures into a kind, generous, and loving young woman. Her central motivation is to prove herself worthy of the crown, but her experiences on Earth gradually shift her focus from ambition to understanding the value of human connection and empathy.

Megu's role in the story is that of the main protagonist and a candidate for the throne of the magic realm. Her journey involves both everyday life with her adoptive family and battles against magical threats. She frequently clashes with her rival, Non, another witch candidate who is initially more skilled and emotionally cold. The rivalry between Megu and Non is a key driver of the plot, as their contrasting personalities and approaches to magic force each to grow. Megu also contends with the dark queen Saturn, a true villain, and faces interference from the comedic inspector Chou-san. Over the course of the series, Megu comes to realize that her true enemy is not any single antagonist but the darker side of human nature itself.

Megu's key relationships include her adoptive mother Mami, who serves as a mentor and maternal figure; her younger siblings Rabi and Apo, who ground her in family life; and her rival Non, whose cool and calculating demeanor contrasts with Megu's hot-headedness. The bond between Megu and Non evolves from pure rivalry into a complex mutual respect, as each learns from the other through their shared experiences and battles. Megu also interacts with various other characters from the magic realm and human world, each encounter contributing to her growth.

Notable abilities of Megu include her inherent magical powers, which she uses for both everyday tasks and combat. She can perform spells, fly, and transform objects. Her signature incantation often involves phrases like "Technic Technica Sharara." As a contender for the throne, she is powerful but initially accident-prone, and her training on Earth focuses on refining her control and understanding of magic. Her physical toughness and willingness to fight head-on distinguish her from earlier, more passive magical girl protagonists. Throughout the series, she learns that true strength comes not from magical prowess alone but from emotional maturity and compassion.
