Description
Noa Hoshizaki is a character from the Cardfight!! Vanguard G anime, appearing first in Cardfight!! Vanguard G: NEXT and continuing into Cardfight!! Vanguard G: Z. He is a member of Team New Nippon, a group of young vanguard fighters. Noa uses a Link Joker deck, a clan associated with locking opponent units and controlling the flow of battle. He is notable as the first person shown on-screen to undergo Different World Ride, a phenomenon in which a unit from the planet Cray takes control of a human fighter during a cardfight. His vanguard circle during such a fight appears black with a red aura, resembling the original Lock animation.

In terms of background, Noa Hoshizaki initially appears as a capable fighter within the Under20 championship, a major tournament for young vanguard players. During the tournament, he becomes a vessel for the unit Chaos Breaker Dragon, a powerful Link Joker entity. This possession marks him as an Apostle of Gyze, a group of six units from Cray who serve the dragon deity Gyze and seek to revive it on Earth. As an Apostle, Noa’s personality is largely overwritten by Chaos Breaker, and he acts as an antagonist. His primary motivation is to further the Apostles’ goal of reviving Gyze, using his Link Joker deck augmented by the Zeroth Dragon of Destroy Star, Stark, one of the six Zeroth Dragons tied to the Apostles.

Noa’s role in the story is that of an adversary during the early part of Cardfight!! Vanguard G: Z. He confronts the main protagonist, Chrono Shindou, demanding a cardfight shortly after the Under20 tournament ends. This encounter is part of the Apostles’ broader plan to target Chrono, who is a singularity point for the Gear Chronicle clan and a key figure in the fight against Gyze. Later in the series, as the heroes work to stop the Apostles, Noa is freed from Chaos Breaker’s control. He is reunited with his former teammates Arata Nishizawa and Makoto Asada, who had been searching for him. This reunion marks a turning point for Noa, as he is no longer an antagonist but returns to the side of the vanguard fighters. The three are ambushed by the Apostles Gredora and Darkface, but are rescued by other heroes, allowing Noa to contribute to the final battles against Gyze.

Noa’s development centers on his release from possession and his reclamation of his own will. There is little indication of his personal personality before his possession, but after regaining his freedom, he fights alongside his comrades, showing loyalty and a desire to make amends. His key relationships include Arata Nishizawa and Makoto Asada, who are his close friends and fellow members of Team New Nippon. His bond with Chrono Shindou is initially that of an enemy, but after his liberation, he aligns with the larger effort against Gyze. Notable abilities include his skill with a Link Joker deck, his experience as a Different World Rider, and his temporary access to the Zeroth Dragon Stark while under Chaos Breaker’s influence. In summary, Noa Hoshizaki is a supporting character who transitions from a corrupted antagonist to a redeemed ally, playing a role in the final conflict of the Try3 saga.
