ONA
Description
Lisa is a central figure in the Castlevania anime, first appearing as a human healer and scientist from the village of Lupu. In 1455, driven by a desire to expand her medical knowledge, she ventures to Dracula’s castle, seeking the advanced wisdom rumored to be hidden there. Rather than cower before the vampire lord, she confronts him with courage and directness, pointing out his isolation from the world. Impressed by her boldness and intellect, Dracula allows her to use his libraries, and over time they form a deep bond, eventually marrying. Lisa becomes the wife of Vlad Tepes and the mother of their son, Adrian, who later takes the name Alucard.

Lisa is defined by her compassion, intelligence, and moral clarity. She devotes herself to healing the sick and learning the sciences, using alchemy and medicine to improve the lives of others. Her unwavering belief in the goodness of humanity and her refusal to see the world in black-and-white terms sets her apart from both the superstitious townsfolk and the vengeful Dracula. Even when the Church condemns her as a witch for her practices—seizing her from her workshop and burning her at the stake—she does not harbor hatred. As she dies, she pleads for Dracula not to seek revenge, asking him to understand that the people acted out of ignorance.

Her role in the story is that of a tragic catalyst. Her execution is the event that shatters Dracula’s tenuous connection to humanity, driving him to declare a genocidal war against all mankind. At the same time, her final words shape her son Alucard, who honors her wish by opposing his father’s rampage. Though Lisa dies before the main events of the series, her presence permeates the narrative through flashbacks, visions, and the motivations of both Dracula and Alucard. She reappears in the afterlife: first trapped in Hell alongside Dracula, and later, in the fourth season, resurrected back to Earth after the destruction of a rebis creature, reunited with her husband and freed from their cursed fate.

Her key relationships are with Dracula and Alucard. With Dracula, she is the sole person who saw beyond his monstrous reputation, offering him companionship and a reason to hope. Their love is genuine, but her death transforms his grief into fury. With Alucard, she is a loving mother whose final plea instills in him a sense of duty to protect humanity. Her compassion and reasoning become his moral compass.

In terms of development, Lisa changes little as a character; she is already fully formed when the story begins. Her arc is one of sacrifice and enduring influence rather than personal growth. Her notable abilities are rooted in science and medicine rather than combat. She is a skilled healer and alchemist, using her knowledge to treat the sick and injured. She also possesses remarkable courage and emotional resilience, enabling her to challenge a vampire, endure persecution, and face death with dignity. Lisa does not wield supernatural powers, but her legacy shapes the entire course of the series.
