The entity is dissatisfied with the natural rate of mortality and craves a feast of souls on an unprecedented scale. To achieve this, the Alchemist persona is used to manipulate the human alchemist Saint Germain. Playing on his desperate desire to be reunited with a lost lover, the Alchemist provides him with the forbidden knowledge and direction needed to resurrect Dracula as a deranged, immortal Rebis. This plan is designed to create an insane and unstoppable engine of destruction that would slaughter countless people, providing Death with an endless food supply.

In the overall narrative, the Alchemist serves as the hidden puppeteer and a key piece of Death’s long-term strategy. While Death uses another obnoxious vampire persona named Varney to manipulate events in the human world, the Alchemist form is used to manipulate Saint Germain within the Infinite Corridor. The character's key relationship is therefore with Saint Germain, whom it deceives and guides toward a catastrophic ritual, viewing him as nothing more than a useful tool. This calculated manipulation eventually leads Saint Germain to realize his terrible mistake, prompting a final act of sacrifice to undo the damage.

Regarding development, the Alchemist is not a separate character who grows or changes. Instead, it is a static facade for Death. The entity's true nature is revealed when the disguise is finally dropped, showing that the helpful magician was merely a mask for the ancient spirit of death itself. This revelation recontextualizes all of the Alchemist's actions as part of a predatory scheme.

The notable abilities associated with this form are extensive. As a master of shapeshifting, Death can flawlessly assume the Alchemist’s appearance. More significantly, through this persona, Death demonstrates a profound mastery of alchemy and the Infinite Corridor, using it to create a personal domain that appears as an infinite, distorted library. In its true form, Death possesses superhuman strength capable of breaking a human arm with ease, wields a massive scythe with deadly proficiency, and can manipulate dark magic to create energy waves, forcefields, and explosions. It can also consume souls directly to increase its own power and is highly resistant to holy weapons, such as the Morning Star whip.
