TV-Series
Description
Kōhei Matsuda is a manager at Green Entertainment, a small production company based in Sendai. He is twenty-five years old at the time of the series. Before becoming a manager, he attended college in Tokyo with the goal of becoming a recording artist, but he encountered a setback that forced him to return to Sendai. After his return, he began working for Green Entertainment under its president, Junko Tange. When the company was on the verge of losing its last remaining talent, Tange ordered Matsuda to scout for a new idol group. During his search, he encountered a girl named Mayu Shimada, a former member of the major idol group I-1 Club, and their meeting set the events of the original series into motion. Matsuda is a diligent and often frustrated figure who shoulders much of the day-to-day work of managing the group. He is pragmatic and occasionally overwhelmed by the chaotic decisions of his boss, but he remains committed to supporting the members of Wake Up, Girls! as they grow. His own past dream of becoming an artist gives him a personal understanding of the challenges the girls face, and he often shows a quiet, protective concern for their well-being. In Wake Up, Girls! New Chapter, Matsuda continues to serve as the group's manager, handling logistics, promotions, and the practical hurdles of running a small idol unit in a competitive industry. He has a close working relationship with Junko Tange, whose bold and sometimes reckless plans he must help carry out. He also interacts frequently with the seven main members, acting as a bridge between them and the often harsh realities of the entertainment business. While Matsuda does not possess any special abilities beyond his managerial skills, his resourcefulness and persistence are central to the group's ability to keep moving forward. Over the course of the story, he matures in his role, learning to trust the members' own initiative and to take pride in their accomplishments.
