ONA
Description
Leo Aioria is the Gold Saint of Leo, the guardian of the fifth temple of the Sanctuary and one of the twelve elite warriors who serve the goddess Athena. He is the younger brother of Aiolos, the former Gold Saint of Sagittarius, who was falsely branded a traitor for attempting to protect the infant Athena from the usurper Pope. This stigma stained Aioria’s reputation from a young age, forcing him to endure years of suspicion and ostracism within the Sanctuary. Despite this, he resolved to prove his own loyalty and restore honor to his family name, training with fierce determination and becoming a Gold Saint at a remarkably early age.

Aioria’s personality is defined by his fiery, impulsive nature combined with a deep and unshakable sense of justice. He is hot-blooded and direct, often acting on his emotions before thinking, but his heart is pure and his intentions are always noble. He possesses great courage and zeal, and once he recognizes a righteous cause, he commits to it completely. Despite his sometimes arrogant and aggressive demeanor in battle, he is also capable of warmth and compassion, as seen in his early encouragement of the young Seiya and his care for those around him.

His core motivation shifts over the course of the story. Initially, he is driven by the need to clear his brother’s name and prove his own worth to the Sanctuary. This leads him to blindly obey the false Pope, even accepting missions to eliminate the Bronze Saints who have rebelled against the Sanctuary. However, after a confrontation with Seiya—who is aided by the spirit of Aiolos—and the revelation that Saori Kido is the true Athena, Aioria’s loyalty realigns. He becomes one of Athena’s most devoted defenders, fighting to protect her and uphold justice against any threat.

Aioria plays a significant role in the Sanctuary arc, where he is initially sent to kill Seiya and the other Bronze Saints. He wounds Shaina and engages Seiya, but the encounter opens his eyes to the truth. He then marches to the Pope’s chamber to confront the false Patriarch, Saga of Gemini, and fights him to a standstill. During this battle, Saga uses his Genrou Maouken to place Aioria under mind control. The spell is only broken when the warrior Cassios willingly throws himself in front of Aioria’s attack, sacrificing his life to free the Gold Saint. Freed and filled with remorse, Aioria swears to protect Athena.

In subsequent arcs, Aioria remains a key ally. During the Poseidon conflict, he is ordered by Dohko to stay at the Sanctuary but longs to join the battle, and he later aids the Bronze Saints indirectly. In the Hades arc, he becomes the Sanctuary’s main striker against the invading Specters, defeating several of them in quick succession. He is momentarily distracted by the disguised cosmos of Saga, Shura, and Camus, but recovers. Ultimately, he sacrifices his life alongside the other Gold Saints to destroy the Wailing Wall, channeling their combined power so that the Bronze Saints can reach Elysion and defeat Hades. He also appears as a main character in the spin‑off Saint Seiya Episode G, which details his earlier battles against the Titans and his growth as a warrior.

Key relationships define Aioria’s journey. His bond with his brother Aiolos is the deepest; Aiolos was not only his sibling but also his teacher, and Aioria’s entire early life is shaped by the desire to restore Aiolos’s tarnished legacy. With Seiya, Aioria shares a complex bond that begins with enmity but evolves into mutual respect and friendship. He also interacts with other Gold Saints such as Shaka of Virgo, whom he fights evenly while under mind control, and Milo of Scorpio, who is a fellow warrior with a similar sense of duty.

Aioria’s abilities center on the manipulation of lightning and light‑speed combat. As a Gold Saint, he has awakened the Seventh Sense, granting him the power to move and react at the speed of light. His signature techniques include Lightning Bolt, a concentrated, sphere‑shaped energy attack launched at light speed, and Lightning Plasma, a wide‑area barrage of hundreds of millions of light‑speed punches that form a net of lightning. He also employs Lightning Fang, a high‑density wind‑pressure attack that destroys opponents at an atomic level. In Episode G, he uses Photon Burst, a powerful beam technique. Beyond these offensive moves, Aioria possesses abilities such as psychokinesis, healing at the atomic level, and the capacity to create defensive barriers. When further empowered, as with the God Cloth in later storylines, his techniques become even more devastating, including God Lightning Plasma and Lightning Flame.

Aioria’s development is centered on learning to think for himself and trust his own judgment rather than blindly following authority. From a stigmatized youth struggling under his brother’s shadow, he matures into a confident, independent warrior who embodies the ideals of courage, loyalty, and righteousness. His arc shows how personal pain and public shame can be overcome through conviction and action, making him a trusted pillar of Athena’s army until his final, selfless act.
