Description
Nana is a supporting character in Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody. She is a homunculus, the seventh generation cultivated in a tank, and was created based on the character Mia, using Mia's blood as a template. This origin leads Nana to refer to Mia as mother. Physically, Nana has the appearance of a young woman with very long blonde or yellow hair and green eyes. Despite being less than a year old at her introduction, her homunculus physiology gives her the look of someone around eighteen years old. Her full name is Nana Nagasaki.
In terms of personality, Nana is stoic and straightforward. Her thought process and manner of speaking are described as resembling a primitive computer AI executing commands, which makes her speech literal and direct. This contrasts with some of her sisters, who speak more naturally. She is loyal and obedient to her master, initially serving Zen. After Zen is defeated by Satou Pendragon, Satou becomes her new master, and she faithfully follows his orders. Her sense of purpose is tied to fulfilling her role as a shield user and protecting her companions.
Nana's primary motivation stems from her creation as a homunculus designed for service. She seeks to carry out her duties without deviation, but she also develops a capacity for care and responsibility. In the Labyrinth City Ark, she adopts two featherkin children named Shiro and Crow, indicating a growing sense of family and connection beyond her programmed purpose.
In the story, Nana serves as the shield user of Satou's party. She was originally stationed with an Iron Golem in the central room of a maze created by Trazayuya. After her previous master Zen is defeated, she transfers her allegiance to Satou and becomes a reliable defender for the group, specializing in protective and defensive combat roles. Her role in the party is primarily supportive, focusing on shielding allies during battles.
Key relationships include her bond with Mia, whom she calls mother due to their blood connection. She also forms a close relationship with Satou as her master. In the web novel, she has six sisters, though the number of sisters differs in the light novel. In the light novel version, Satou saves all of Nana's sisters, and they go on a separate journey together. Nana's development sees her transition from a simple homunculus following directives to someone who forms genuine familial bonds, as shown when she adopts and cares for her featherkin children.
Notable abilities include her proficiency as a shield user, which makes her adept at defensive combat and protecting her allies. As a homunculus, she possesses enhanced physical capabilities suited for her designed role. Her combat style focuses on defense and protection rather than offense, making her a steadfast frontline defender for the party.
