TV-Series
Description
Zenitsu Agatsuma endured childhood abandonment and resulting financial hardship. A romantic deceit left him burdened with significant debt, a situation resolved when former Thunder Hashira Jigoro Kuwajima intervened. Kuwajima paid the debt and took Zenitsu on as a swordsmanship apprentice. During training, panic led Zenitsu to climb a tree where a lightning strike permanently altered his hair color from black to yellow with orange tips.

His physical traits include fair skin, downward-sloped gold-fading eyes, and gradient yellow-to-orange hair. He wears a modified Demon Slayer uniform paired with a pale brown jacket and a yellow-orange haori patterned with white triangles. Following a battle on Mount Natagumo, demon poison caused his limbs to shrink temporarily until Shinobu Kocho administered an antidote restoring them.

Zenitsu's personality is marked by extreme cowardice, constant self-doubt, and vocal anxiety about dying. He frequently flees danger or faints, later rationalizing achievements performed while unconscious as others' actions. A strong desire for affection fuels persistent proposals to women and obsessive devotion to Nezuko Kamado, whom he instinctively protects. Despite his fear, loyalty to comrades and respect for Jigoro Kuwajima trigger focused bravery. His acute hearing detects environmental nuances and emotional states through sound.

His abilities center on Thunder Breathing. Initially, he mastered only the First Form: Thunderclap and Flash, later refining it into multi-strike variations (Sixfold, Eightfold) and Godspeed, though leg strain limited early daily usage. He independently developed his signature Seventh Form: Honoikazuchi no Kami, resembling an electric dragon. Enhanced hearing enables threat detection, movement prediction, and emotional discernment. Unconscious combat emerges during extreme terror, suppressing fear for instinctive precision. Physical traits include leg-powered agility surpassing Upper Rank demons and endurance to fight through injuries like broken feet or poison.

Relationships define key motivations. Jigoro Kuwajima served as mentor and paternal figure; Jigoro's death at the hands of Kaigaku—a fellow disciple Zenitsu despised but respected—fueled his vengeful resolve. Tanjiro Kamado transitioned from initial jealousy to deep mutual trust, while rivalry with Inosuke Hashibira evolved into camaraderie. Romantic fixation on Nezuko began at their first meeting, driving protective actions despite her demonic nature.

Zenitsu's development progresses from reliance on unconscious fighting to awakened competence. Early arcs featured unconscious victories against the Tongue Demon and Spider Family members. Aboard the Infinity Train, he resisted enchanted dreams of Nezuko to rejoin battle. By the Hashira Training arc, he mastered Total Concentration Breathing. Confronting Kaigaku fully conscious, he denounced his senior's betrayal of Jigoro before executing the Seventh Form. Final battles against Muzan Kibutsuji showcased sustained conscious combat despite severe injuries, reflecting hardened resolve.
