Description
Kakeru Tengeji is a first-year student at Ayanagi Gakuen's high school division, where he is a candidate in the musical department after having previously studied in the vocal department. He was born on August 11, making his zodiac sign Leo, has type A blood, and stands at a height of 175 centimeters. He comes from a renowned family of kabuki actors and had already established himself as a performer in this traditional art form from a very young age, having trained and performed on stage throughout his childhood. As a result of his upbringing, he was raised primarily in a world of adults and never had the chance to spend time with peers his own age before attending Ayanagi Gakuen.

His personality is defined by a strong sense of pride and self-importance, stemming from his noble kabuki lineage and his own confirmed talents. He tends to look down on those he perceives as being of lower status or ability, and he is bluntly honest, never hesitating to voice his displeasure. He often uses the word "boor" to refer to those he considers inferior or uncouth. Despite this haughty exterior, he possesses a hidden, softer side: he adores cats, referring to them as angels, and secretly keeps a black cat named Tavian in his dormitory room, where he dotes on the animal. Because of his fame, he is often chased by reporters and must wear glasses as a disguise when outside of school. His privileged upbringing means he had never eaten fast food or used a bus bell before entering high school. He is confident in his academic abilities, being skilled in all subjects, and his report cards often note his genius intellect but sometimes comment on a lack of cooperation.

His primary motivation is to excel as a performer, and he holds his own abilities and the prestige of his family's name in high regard. He is dedicated to his craft, and his early goal within the story is to ensure the survival and success of his team, which he initially believes requires removing members he deems untalented. Throughout the series, he learns to value friendship and teamwork, with his motivations expanding to include supporting his teammates and growing alongside them.

In the story, Kakeru is a member of Team Otori, one of the groups formed by a member of the Kao Council. Initially, he is very critical of his teammate Yuta Hoshitani, whom he sees as an amateur with no talent, and he even asks Hoshitani to leave the team for the sake of its survival. His attitude changes dramatically after he discovers that Hoshitani and another teammate, Toru Nayuki, spent an entire night searching for his lost cat. Touched by their kindness and earnestness, he befriends them, begins giving Hoshitani tips to improve, and stops looking down on him. Kakeru also has a competitive and often bickering relationship with teammate Kaito Tsukigami due to their conflicting views, though they acknowledge each other's skills. He frequently clashes with Akira Ugawa from another team, and the two often get into arguments and physical altercations when Ugawa insults Team Otori, as Kakeru is fiercely protective of his teammates' honor.

Kakeru's character development centers on his journey from an isolated, prideful noble to a person who learns to trust and value his peers. He begins the series unable to understand the concept of friends due to his isolated childhood, but through his experiences with Team Otori, he starts to show awkward kindness and comes to think of his teammates as precious comrades. His growth involves softening his sharp edges while retaining his core confidence and regal demeanor, learning to balance his individual brilliance with the needs of the group. His past includes the embarrassing memory of his father dressing him in a girl's kimono for a party as a joke, a photograph he later destroyed. This event and his isolated upbringing contributed to his difficulty in communicating with people his own age.

His notable abilities are primarily in performance. As a child actor in kabuki, he is highly skilled in dance, movement, and acting, as implied by his ability to play female roles. He demonstrates his skill in practical exercises like improvisation, earning the acknowledgment of his skilled teammates. Academically, he is a genius with no worries about his grades, showcasing a sharp and capable mind. His daily habits include performing specific rituals, such as changing his cat Tavian's drinking water first thing in the morning. He prefers traditional Japanese food and the Tengenji family's home-brewed coffee, and he travels mainly by car.
