Description
Kuroboshi III is a humanoid black cat spirit who appears in RIN-NE 3. He is the grandson of Kuroboshi, a longtime contract black cat serving the shinigami Tamako. As his grandfather wishes to retire, Kuroboshi III is training to inherit the role and form his own contract with Tamako. He is typically seen wearing a brown kimono and green hakama, and his forehead bears a star-shaped mark similar to his grandfather’s. Despite his pleasing and earnest personality, he harbors a deeply embarrassing secret: an extreme phobia of ghosts. This fear ironically makes him exceptionally sensitive to supernatural presences, granting him a preternatural ability to detect phantoms that even Rinne and Sakura cannot sense. In his daily life, Kuroboshi III is polite and diligent; he earnestly supports Tamako and strives to help with household chores. He also displays a mild flirtatious side, particularly toward Sakura Mamiya. His primary motivation is to overcome his fear so that he can become a proper contract black cat and allow his grandfather to retire. However, despite encouragement and training from Rinne and Rokumon, Kuroboshi III struggles to make progress, and his persistent terror remains a comedic obstacle throughout his appearances. The character’s blend of sincere ambition and crippling weakness provides both humor and a touch of pathos, highlighting the difficulty of confronting one’s greatest fears even when the stakes are highly personal.
