Description
Kokuyō is a divine servant originally summoned by the land god Kukuri, from whom she takes the form of a transformed crow. She serves as a shrine maiden at the Hakusan temple, acting as an assistant and intermediary for the god. Her most immediate and defining trait upon introduction is her ravenous appetite, which strains Kukuri’s already tight budget and became a running complication from her very first appearance.

Her personality is notably flat and monotone. She speaks with minimal inflection and rarely displays strong emotions on her face, giving her a perpetually detached and direct quality. She possesses virtually no sense of shame or social boundaries, often making blunt, physical offers without any awareness of impropriety. Another persistent quirk is her extremely poor ability to recognize people by sight, which leads to repeated comedic mix-ups where she mistakes characters for one another, even when provided with clear reference images.

Her primary motivation is to fulfill her duties as Kukuri’s attendant, carrying out orders and maintaining the temple. Within the story, she functions as a supporting presence connected to the supernatural hierarchy of the setting. She acts as a bridge between the main human characters and the divine realm, often appearing when Kukuri interacts with the protagonist, Kazuya Kagami. Her relationships are largely defined by this master-servant bond; she is fiercely loyal to Kukuri in her own detached way, though her eccentricities and appetite continuously cause havoc for the struggling god. She does not undergo a major dramatic transformation, instead remaining a consistent, eccentric fixture of the temple.

In terms of abilities, Kokuyō can transform into her original crow form, allowing her to fly and serve as a messenger or scout. She also possesses the spiritual power expected of a god’s attendant, though her role in the narrative relies more on her character quirks and her position at Kukuri’s side than on direct combat.
