Description
Michella Watch is the younger sister of Leonardo Watch, the protagonist of Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond. She has been paralyzed from birth, and her parents once brought both children to the border of Hellsalem's Lot in the secret hope that some extraordinary event might restore the use of her legs. During that visit, a demon forcibly took her eyesight to implant the All-Seeing Eyes of the Gods into her brother. As a result, Michella is both physically disabled and blind, spending her days in a wheelchair and reliant on others for mobility.
Her personality is described by her brother as moody and childish; she often makes light of her condition, joking about being in a wheelchair, and she playfully refers to Leonardo as her Tortoise Knight. Despite her outward levity, she displays resilience and a sharp sense of humor. She does not wallow in self-pity, nor does she resent her brother for the powers he gained at her expense. Instead, she maintains a warm, teasing bond with him and becomes an emotional anchor for Leonardo throughout his dangerous work with the organization Libra.
Michella’s primary motivation is rooted in her relationship with Leonardo. She supports him from afar, and Leonardo frequently narrates his adventures to her through phone calls, making her a confidante and witness to his experiences. Her role in the story is initially that of a catalyst: her loss of sight is the central tragedy that drives Leonardo to come to Hellsalem’s Lot and seek the organization’s help. As the series progresses, she gains a more active presence, particularly in the second season, where she travels into the city on her own. When she is taken hostage, she proves herself to be far from a helpless victim, showing quick thinking and courage under pressure. This development marks a shift from a passive figure to someone who can contribute to her own rescue.
Her key relationship is with Leonardo. Their sibling connection is the emotional core of the narrative, and her safety and well-being remain Leonardo’s foremost concern. She also interacts briefly with other members of Libra when they become involved in protecting her, but the bond with her brother is the only one explored in depth.
Michella possesses no supernatural abilities; her physical limitations define her existence. However, her strength lies in her resilience, her unflinching acceptance of her circumstances, and her ability to remain positive despite the profound losses she has endured. She does not develop any combat skills or special powers, but her courage and loyalty to Leonardo make her a quiet but vital force in his life and, by extension, in the story of Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond.
