Description
Dr. Luciana Estevez serves as a doctor at Bradbury General Hospital within the world of Hellsalem's Lot. Once an ordinary human, she made a conscious decision to sacrifice her humanity to save her patients during a catastrophic event. This transformation defines her role in the story of Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond, where she appears as a specialist capable of handling the supernatural medical crises that arise in the chaotic city.
Before the event known as the Great Collapse, Luciana was a dedicated medical professional who graduated from medical school and worked alongside a colleague named Gunther Gropius at Bradbury General in what was formerly New York City. When the Great Collapse occurred, the hospital became a refugee center. As the doctors worked tirelessly for eighteen hours, a powerful Blood Breed named Zamedle Lolow Zeaze Nazamsandriga attacked the facility. After the monster and his dog slaughtered nearly everyone, including Luciana, the hospital was pulled into the Alterworld. There, Luciana, clinging to life, encountered the Beyondian doctor Magra de Grana. At her insistence, she made a contract with him: she would give up her humanity in exchange for the power to save her remaining patients.
As a result of this contract, Luciana acquired the unique ability to divide herself into what appear to be infinite copies. This power allows her to perform high-speed treatments on numerous patients simultaneously. When she divides, her copies take on a smaller, child-like appearance characterized by a prominent cowlick. When these clones recombine, Luciana reverts to a more mature physique with longer hair.
Dr. Estevez possesses a deep, almost absolute passion for her profession. Her guiding principle is that she is a doctor before she is a human. This dedication extends to all individuals under her care; she has explicitly stated that even if a patient is considered a public enemy, they are still a patient first. While her primary focus is healing, she does not hesitate to fight back against those who actively seek to harm those she is treating. Despite her formidable powers, she also serves as a voice of caution. She warns protagonists like Leonardo Watch against attempting to remove or alter supernatural afflictions, explaining that such actions could provoke catastrophic retaliation from the entities that granted those powers.
Her medical skills are extensive and have grown beyond traditional human medicine. After spending three years in the Alterworld, her training expanded to include the treatment of non-human patients, supernatural surgeries, and magical life support. In combat, she utilizes a technique called Phantom Surgery or Phardem Triga. Using a scalpel, she and her clones slice an opponent, causing the target to split into pieces. After this attack, the clones merge back into a single, more mature-looking Luciana. Her typical appearance outside of these abilities is that of a woman with black hair and blue eyes, usually dressed in a black turtleneck, black pants, and a white doctor's coat.
