Description
Silvestro Brega is a supporting character in Altair: A Record of Battles. He serves as the captain general of the fleet belonging to the city-state of Venedik and also functions as an envoy for its ruler, Doge Antonio Lucio. A man of Venedik, he holds the nationality of his prosperous and pragmatic maritime republic.

Physically, Brega is an adult male of considerable height, standing at 189 centimeters, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was born on October 6th and is 39 years old at the time of his first appearance in the story.

In his role as a captain and envoy, Brega is deeply involved in the political and military maneuvers of Venedik. He is present during the rising tensions between the Balt-Rhein Empire and the Centro city-states, where he speaks with the Doge of the Republic of L'isonlani regarding their secret pact, which the empire is violating. His most significant actions involve the protagonist, Mahmut. After the fall of the city of Phoiníkē, it is Brega who commands the Venedik ships that rescue the injured Mahmut and his companion Kyros from the sea, bringing them to safety. Mahmut angrily questions Brega about Venedik's failure to honor their alliance and aid the city, before collapsing from his wounds.

Later, Brega plays a pivotal role in testing Mahmut's character. After Mahmut and Kyros arrive in Venedik, Brega and his first mate, Abiriga, orchestrate a ruse involving a fabricated debt to gauge Mahmut's worthiness as a potential ally. Mahmut works to earn money to pay off the debt, believing it to be real. In the end, Brega reveals the test, explaining that Venedik might wish to forge an alliance with Mahmut's nation of Türkiye in the future. To facilitate this, he arranges for Abiriga to travel with Mahmut as a liaison. This event demonstrates Brega's strategic and somewhat calculating nature, acting not out of simple charity but with the long-term interests of Venedik in mind.

Key relationships define his position. He is the husband of Cecelia Brega. His most personal connection is with Abiriga, whom he has adopted as a son. Abiriga is his loyal first mate, and Brega took him in after he escaped from a life of slavery, giving him a home and a place in his crew. Their bond is one of mutual trust and familial loyalty.

While the full extent of his abilities is not detailed in all sources, his role as captain general and his actions demonstrate that he is a capable naval commander and a shrewd political operative. His primary contributions to the story are through his strategic decisions and his facilitation of key alliances, rather than through feats of individual combat.
