TV-Series
Description
Orhan, also known as Kilic Orhan, is a supporting character in Altair: A Record of Battles. He is the crown prince of the Kilic Stratocracy, one of the states that make up Greater Turkey, and the only son of Sultan Selim. He is nineteen years old when the story begins, stands about 1.70 meters tall, and has light grey hair and grey eyes. His title is Prince of Swords, a name drawn from the meaning of his homeland's name.
By nature Orhan is bright and good-natured, but also timid, indecisive, and quick to tears; his fiancée Ayşe affectionately calls him a crybaby. He is sensitive and unusually expressive, yet he knows little about politics or warfare and tends to act on impulse without deep consideration, a weakness he recognizes in himself. He is also afraid of his father, a stern ruler who always wears a mask and rarely reveals his true feelings, which keeps Orhan at a distance from him.
His main motivation is his love for Ayşe, the princess of the Balta Stratocracy, whom he has known since childhood and is betrothed to. He wants to protect her and to become a person worthy of her, and much of his growth is tied to that goal.
In the story, Orhan becomes a key figure during the conflict among the stratocracies. When Mahmut and his companions are wanted fugitives, Orhan shelters them out of simple kindness. Ayşe and her allies try to bring him to their side and persuade his father to support the alliance against the Balt-Rhein Empire. But when Ayşe is threatened during her wedding to Orhan, Sultan Selim turns against her and tries to kill her, and Orhan stops his father by striking him down, killing him. He then takes the throne as the third-generation sultan of the Kilic Stratocracy, and his forces fight alongside the allied army, at times placed under Mahmut's command during the battles that follow.
His relationship with Ayşe is the emotional core of his character: she is his childhood friend, his confidante, and the person he most wants to live up to. His relationship with his father is more complicated, defined by fear and distance until the moment he is forced to choose between his father and the woman he loves. With Mahmut he is trusting and helpful, offering refuge when it is dangerous to do so.
Orhan develops from a sheltered, tearful prince into a ruler who has taken an irreversible and painful decision. After the civil war he accepts his new position as sultan and vows to become a man worthy of Ayşe, carrying the weight of having killed his own father so that the choice will not have been made in vain.
In terms of abilities, Orhan is not presented as a military strategist or a seasoned warrior. His importance comes from his rank and from the loyalty of the Kilic forces, which his authority brings to the alliance. His decisive personal actions are driven by resolve and protectiveness rather than by notable combat skill, and no special powers are attributed to him.
