Description
Lancer Vermelho is the class name of Karna, a heroic spirit from the Indian epic Mahabharata who serves as the Lancer of the Red Faction in the Great Holy Grail War of Fate/Apocrypha. He is the son of the human princess Kunti and the sun god Surya, born with a golden armor and earrings that made him invulnerable. Abandoned as an infant, he was raised by a charioteer and rose to become a legendary warrior, eventually siding with the Kaurava princes against his half-brother Arjuna. In the war, he was tricked into giving away his armor and died under multiple curses, but his heroic nature earned him the title Hero of Charity.

In Fate/Apocrypha, Karna was originally summoned by one of the five puppet masters of the Red Faction, then came under the command of Shirou Kotomine. He is a calm, thoughtful, and deeply honest individual who instinctively sees through falsehoods and deceptions. He treats all people, allies and enemies alike, with respect, believing every person is like a flower with their own worth. However, his blunt and direct way of speaking often leads others to misinterpret his intentions, making him appear cold or confrontational. He is aware of this communication problem and earnestly tries to improve, having been told by a previous master that he speaks too little rather than too much.

Karna has no personal wish for the Holy Grail. He participates in the war purely to fulfill his role as a summoned Servant, offering his loyalty and power to his master. In combat, he is one of the most formidable warriors of the Red camp, on par with Achilles. He faces Siegfried of the Black Faction in battle and recognizes in him a pure warrior burdened by duty, reminiscent of his own past rivalry with Arjuna. His relationship with his master Shirou is strained by his continued loyalty to those who originally summoned him, but he obeys out of necessity to protect them.

Karna’s abilities are immense. His signature defensive Noble Phantasm, Kavacha and Kundala, is a suit of golden armor that is the crystallized light of the sun, granting near-total invulnerability even against divine attacks. He wields the skill Mana Burst (Flames), which constantly envelops any weapon he holds in fiery energy. His spear can unleash Brahmastra Kundala, an anti-country Noble Phantasm of enormous destructive power. His most devastating attack is Vasavi Shakti, a single-use spear of light given by the god Indra, which he obtains only by sacrificing his armor. This spear is capable of killing even divine beings. Additionally, his class skills include Magic Resistance, high Divinity as the son of a sun god, Discernment of the Poor—an insight that penetrates lies and reveals true character—and Uncrowned Arms Mastery, which makes his combat skills appear lesser until his true name is known.

Karna remains a steadfast and tragic figure throughout Fate/Apocrypha: a saintly hero who accepts all hardship without complaint, yet struggles to be understood by those around him. He fights with full power and sincerity, making him one of the most loyal and dangerous Servants in the war.
