Description
Francis Drake appears in Fate/Extra Last Encore as the Rider-class servant summoned by Shinji Matou, the master of the first阶层 (stratum) of the Moon Cell Automaton. Her historical basis is the renowned 16th-century English privateer and admiral who completed the second circumnavigation of the globe and commanded the English fleet against the Spanish Armada. Despite being based on a historical male figure, Drake is presented as a woman, a discrepancy explained by the notion that no one in her crew ever regarded her as anything other than a formidable captain, with one sailor noting that to view her as a woman would be an insult to her prowess and to themselves as men.

Drake embodies a hedonistic and fiercely independent spirit. She is a born adventurer and开拓者 (pioneer) who lives for the thrill of the moment. Her personality is marked by a profound love for spectacle and grandeur, whether in private life, warfare, or celebration. She finds joy in the fleeting, storm-like rush of excitement that leaves nothing behind but the memory of the experience. This extends to her relationship with wealth; she loves金银财宝 (treasure) not for its permanence but as something to be enjoyed and squandered as quickly as fireworks. She is a generous rogue who makes no distinction between good and evil in her dealings, treating all people with the same boisterous and impartial attitude. Drake is a hardened realist who accepts the inevitability of a splendid and dramatic downfall, a perspective shaped by the circumstances of her historical death from illness, where she is said to have donned armor in a fit of delirium.

Her motivations are not driven by grand ambitions for her master or a wish for the Holy Grail. Instead, she seeks the exhilaration of conflict and the joy of a life lived without restraint. As a servant, she positions herself naturally as a副官 (adjutant) or second-in-command, having grown accustomed to incompetent superiors during her naval career. While she is loyal to her contract, she operates with a pragmatic, almost mercantile approach, offering her services for a price and never providing more than what has been agreed upon. She does not hold a strong attachment to a master's moral alignment, cheerfully declaring that if her master is a villain, she will gladly play the role of a villain alongside them.

Within the story of Last Encore, Drake plays the role of the first significant obstacle encountered by the protagonist, Hakuno Kishinami. After she and Shinji Matou defeated the ruler of the first阶层, Shinji lost his will to continue fighting in the Holy Grail War. Drake, rather than forcing the issue, remained at his side for 999 years, helping him build and administer a city from the泥土 (mud) of the lunar terrain, indulging in Shinji's boast that he could create gold from the earth. Their partnership is a unique one; Drake openly teases and mocks Shinji's shortcomings as a master and a person, referring to him as a child, yet she remains fiercely loyal, serving as both a guardian and a reluctant enabler of his stagnation. She is discovered by Hakuno and his servant, Nero, in a tavern, and it is only when Shinji's pride is wounded that she is ordered to fight. Her final battle is a prolonged naval engagement against Nero, where her extraordinary luck, a defining trait that usually snatches victory from the jaws of defeat, ultimately fails her after nearly a millennium of inaction. Drake meets her defeat without malice or despair, accepting the outcome as part of the adventure.

Though her appearance is limited, Drake demonstrates notable development in her acceptance of an ending. Unlike Shinji, who fears the finality of death in the Holy Grail War, Drake has long since made peace with the concept. She asserts that every participant is effectively dead from the moment they enter the war, as only one can leave. Her final words to Hakuno express a wish for a future encounter where he would be an even stronger opponent, revealing a respect for a worthy adversary rather than resentment for her own destruction.

Drake possesses formidable abilities that reflect her legend. Her flagship, the Golden Hind, serves as her primary asset, a ship she can summon and even pilot through the air, as seen in the anime. Her Noble Phantasm is named Golden Wild Hunt. This devastating anti-army attack combines the historical tactic of fireships used against the Spanish Armada with the European legend of the Wild Hunt, a ghostly procession led by a powerful figure. It summons a spectral fleet that surrounds the enemy and annihilates them with overwhelming firepower. Her personal skills include Voyager of the Storms, which combines the effects of charisma and military tactics for naval combat, and the unique skill Pioneer of the Stars, which transforms any impossible voyage or challenge into something that can be realized. Her Luck parameter is ranked EX, the highest possible, representing her fate to overcome any difficulty. However, as demonstrated in the story, even this extraordinary luck can be exhausted by prolonged idleness.
