Description
Kaiza Shakuenji, also known in some localizations as Xander Shakadera, is a prominent character from the Beyblade Burst series, specifically playing a significant role in the Beyblade Burst God (Evolution) season. He is often referred to by his nickname, Shaka. As a child, Shakuenji attended the same kindergarten as protagonists Valt Aoi and Shu Kurenai, establishing a long-standing connection with them from an early age. He hails from a family that runs the Shakuenji dojo, where he has been trained since birth in the Shakuenji-style martial arts, a discipline he seamlessly integrates into his blading style.

Shakuenji is a founding member and the powerful leader of the Sword Flames team. He is also recognized as a member of the elite Supreme Four (known as the Big Five in some contexts), a title reserved for the strongest bladers. His personal philosophy is centered on constant training and self-improvement, famously stating that he is always seeking a new challenge.

In terms of personality, Shakuenji is known for being bombastic, cheerful, and overwhelmingly confident, often expressing his fiery spirit through booming laughter. Despite his intimidating appearance, which includes a very tall and muscular build for his age, he possesses a kind and gentle nature. This is demonstrated in moments such as when he carries younger children like Toko and Nika Aoi on his shoulders. As a leader, he is generous and encouraging, praising both his teammates and his rivals for giving their all in a battle, regardless of the final outcome. A recurring source of humor is his occasional forgetfulness regarding his own immense physical strength, which can lead to accidental mishaps like breaking doors or overpowering a friendly gesture.

Shakuenji’s primary motivation is the relentless pursuit of strength through rigorous training. He applies the principles of his martial arts to Beyblade, believing that a powerful body and a disciplined mind are the keys to victory. His role in the story is that of a powerful rival and an inspirational leader. In Beyblade Burst God, he travels to Brazil to further his training and joins the team SB Rios, quickly rising to become its leader in the World League. His journey also involves mentoring younger bladers; for instance, he trains Xavier Bogard, inspiring him to form his own team and improve his Beyblade.

His key relationships are deeply rooted in his past. He shares a close childhood friendship and a fierce rivalry with Valt Aoi, with their battles being a highlight of the series. Despite his competitive nature, he shows great respect for Valt's unpredictable style. Similarly, he is a childhood friend of Shu Kurenai, and has shown concern for Shu's well-being, even using his martial arts knowledge to help treat Shu’s shoulder injury. Within his own teams, he shares a close bond with members like Quon Limon, one of the few bladers who can match his power, and with his martial arts rival, Ren Wu Sun. Over the course of the series, Shakuenji’s development sees him transition from a local dojo leader and member of Japan’s Supreme Four to an internationally recognized blader leading a team in the World League. He later returns as a legendary blader, continuing to evolve his techniques and Beyblade.

Shakuenji’s abilities are a direct reflection of his martial arts training. He possesses a superhuman physique and monstrous strength, which allows him to wield a unique, sword-shaped launcher that no other blader can use effectively. His launching style mimics the motion of drawing a sword, focusing immense power into a single point to pierce and crush the opponent. His Beyblades are consistently attack-type models from the Xcalius line, each designed to deliver devastating, sword-like strikes. His signature special moves, such as Saber Strike and Dual Sabers, involve the Beyblade shifting its position to align its blade perfectly with its spin for a catastrophic finishing blow. In Beyblade Burst God, after pushing his original sword launcher to its breaking point during a grueling 100-battle challenge, he receives a new Digital Sword Launcher, enabling him to perform even more powerful techniques like the Triple Saber.
