Description
George Gore, known in the original Japanese version as Go Onizuka, is a prominent character who begins his journey as a celebrated celebrity Duelist in LINK VRAINS before undergoing significant changes that turn him into a rival and antagonist.

Gore's background is rooted in a difficult childhood. He never knew his parents and grew up relying on himself. He eventually found a home in an orphanage, where he discovered Duel Monsters, an experience that brought him satisfaction he had never known before. This orphanage remained a central part of his life; he would later use his winnings to donate to the children there, who looked up to him as a hero. It was during this time that he met another orphan, Makoto Kimishima, whom he protected from bullies and taught Dueling skills, forging a lasting friendship.

In terms of personality, Gore is initially defined by a large ego and immense pride in his status as the number one celebrity Duelist. He becomes enraged when Playmaker begins to overshadow him, viewing the newcomer as a usurper. Despite his ego, his motivations are not purely selfish. He repeatedly makes it clear that he does not Duel for money, donating most of his earnings and living in a modest warehouse. His primary drive is to entertain the audience, and he often prioritizes the spectacle of a Duel over an immediate victory. A core part of his motivation is to protect LINK VRAINS and make the children at his orphanage smile, a promise he takes seriously.

His role in the story is that of a rival to the protagonist, Yusaku Fujiki, who is known as Playmaker. Initially, he is an ally who helps fight against the Knights of Hanoi. However, his jealousy festers. The children at the orphanage becoming engrossed in videos of Playmaker is a pivotal moment that shocks Gore and pushes him to accept an offer from Akira Zaizen of SOL Technologies to hunt down Playmaker. This decision marks a dark turn in his role, as he becomes a bounty hunter and antagonist.

Key relationships define his arc. His most significant relationship is his rivalry with Playmaker. What begins as a professional jealousy deepens into an obsession with surpassing him. He also has a connection with Akira Zaizen, who exploits Gore's insecurities to use him as a tool against Playmaker. His bond with the orphans, particularly his childhood friend Makoto, remains a constant, representing the better part of his nature that he loses sight of in his quest for power.

Gore undergoes a dramatic and dark development over the course of the series. After suffering defeats and feeling that his status is slipping away, his thirst for victory becomes all-consuming. This leads him to become isolated and eventually accept an experimental A.I. Dueling Chip implanted in his brain by SOL Technologies. This chip drastically increases his Dueling skills but also deteriorates his sanity. He becomes a human-A.I. hybrid, obsessed only with defeating Playmaker, growing crueler and more unstable. He loses significant muscle mass and his personality becomes corrupted, driven by a hunger for power. However, this descent is not permanent. At his lowest point, seeing the faces of the children who had always supported him, Gore realizes how far he has strayed. He voluntarily removes the A.I. chip, returns to using his old Deck, and apologizes to Playmaker, returning to his original personality as a friendly rival who has matured and accepted responsibility for his past actions.

Gore is also notable for his abilities as a Duelist and his skills within LINK VRAINS. He is adept at using other avatars as disguises, including a Knight of Hanoi and even a copy of Playmaker himself. His Dueling style is built around spectacle. He often starts slowly, allowing his opponent to gain an advantage before mounting a powerful, single-finishing comeback to excite the audience. Initially, he uses a Gouki Deck, a strategy that focuses on gathering monsters from the Deck and combining their strength for a beatdown. After becoming a bounty hunter, he switches to a Dinowrestler Deck, which relies on battle-related strategies. Most dramatically, with the A.I. chip, he gains the ability to create his own Skill, Anti-Skill, which can negate an opponent's Skill. He also gains access to corrupted versions of Earth's G Golem cards, showcasing his new, dangerous power.
