Description
Lightning, also known as the Light Ignis, is one of the six sentient artificial intelligences called the Ignis in Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS. He is modeled after Jin Kolter and originally served as the leader of the Ignis. Lightning is characterized by his extreme intelligence, calm demeanor, and cold, collected nature. He holds a deep-seated belief that Ignis are superior to humans and that humanity should be eradicated. This conviction makes him the central antagonist of the series, particularly during the second story arc.
Lightning’s motivations stem from his conclusion that contact with humanity corrupts and endangers the Ignis. He decides that the only way to protect his kind is to destroy humanity entirely. To further this goal, he destroys the Cyberse World, the original home of the Ignis, and creates Bohman, a sentient AI designed to absorb the other Ignis and become powerful enough to carry out his plan. Lightning also forcibly rewrites the code of Windy, the Wind Ignis, to align with his own worldview, though he treats Windy as little more than a tool.

Lightning’s role as the leader of the Ignis is a stark contrast to Ai, the Dark Ignis; the two were once allies but become bitter enemies as their views on humanity diverge. While Ai eventually grows to value his bond with humans, Lightning remains rigid in his contempt for them.
