Description
Ginshu, often referred to as Mademoiselle Ginshu, is a supporting character in the anime and manga series Children of the Whales. She is a member of the Vigilante Corps, the group tasked with maintaining order and protecting the peace aboard the Mud Whale. She is sixteen years old with long reddish-brown hair that she keeps in a messy braid, accented by two small braided loops on top, and wears a long red dress with a front split over black shorts, paired with thigh-high black socks and black sandals. Ginshu is cheerful, confident, and operates at her own pace, giving her a playful and unpredictable presence among the residents. She insists on being addressed as Ms. Ginshu and has a habit of giving others affectionate nicknames, most notably calling the protagonist Chakuro Chakki. Though she lacks thymia, the psychic ability that many marked individuals possess, she compensates with a big heart and unshakable determination. Her primary motivation is to protect her community and support its younger members, especially during crises. She is charismatic and well-liked, though she can be easily misled, as seen when Chakuro tricks her into attacking fellow Vigilante Corps members to sneak past. Ginshu appears early in the story as one of the guards on an expedition and later attempts to lift Chakuro’s spirits after a violent attack. Her relationship with Chakuro is lighthearted and playful; she forces him to call her big sister, and he uses her fondness for the title to influence her. Over the course of the series, Ginshu remains a loyal and energetic protector, participating in dangerous missions such as sneaking onto an enemy ship alongside Chakuro, Lykos, and others. While she does not wield any supernatural abilities, her physical role as a vigilante and her unwavering support for her friends define her contributions to the story.
