Description
Emma is a mysterious girl who appears in the story following the disappearance of another character, Neri. She claims to be Neri's long-lost twin sister, and their physical resemblance is so strong that even the protagonist, Chakuro, has difficulty telling them apart. Her name holds a significant meaning, as it is derived from the Greek word for blood.

In terms of personality, Emma serves as a stark contrast to Neri. While Neri is known for her gentle and pacifistic nature, Emma is characterized by a distinct fondness for conflict and strife. This inclination toward aggression shapes much of her mysterious behavior and interactions with others. Her motivations remain largely ambiguous throughout the narrative, as her true intentions and the full extent of her goals are not immediately clear to the other characters.

Emma plays a crucial and enigmatic role during major conflict events. When the Mud Whale, the floating island home of the protagonists, goes to war with the Empire, she observes the battle from a distance while singing the light song. In the aftermath of the battle, after many have suffered casualties, she extends numerous hand-like appendages to provide warmth and comfort to the wounded and grieving. This act, while seemingly benevolent, is shrouded in mystery and contributes to her otherworldly reputation. The Empire's forces refer to her as the witch, highlighting how she is perceived as a feared and supernatural entity by her enemies.

Her key relationships are primarily defined by her connection to Neri and Chakuro. Her resemblance to Neri creates a personal link for Chakuro, who is deeply affected by the missing girl. Later, she reveals a vision of the Mud Whale's past to Chakuro, although her purpose for doing so is not explicitly explained. Emma also directly intervenes to save a wounded character, Lyudari, after he falls from a cliff, allowing him to escape on a sand whale.

Regarding her development and notable abilities, Emma possesses several supernatural powers that defy easy explanation. She is capable of riding on the back of a legendary sand whale, where she is seen dancing during the heat of battle. She demonstrates the power to heal or comfort others on a large scale with the many hand-like appendages she manifests. Upon departing from a location, a pair of wings becomes visible on her back, further emphasizing her angelic yet mysterious nature.
