Description
Ikkuu Ameya is an immortal and was a member of the UQ Holder organization, designated with the number 10. His origin is rooted in a tragic accident; he was born in the year 2001, and at the age of 13, he fell into a comatose state that would last for 72 years. To escape this condition, he was given a full-body cybernetic prosthesis, a process known as cyberization. This makes him a science-based immortal, as opposed to those whose immortality comes from magical or supernatural means. Legally, he is 85 years old, but having spent decades unconscious, his mental state remains that of a 13-year-old, though he often chooses to inhabit a synthetic body that appears to be in his mid-twenties.
He is characterized by a consistently bright and optimistic personality, frequently seen with a smile on his face. He often encourages others, like his fellow member Karin, to smile more as well. This positive demeanor is complemented by a genuine kindness; he is known to calmly help crying children and uses his abilities to fix their broken toys without hesitation. As a relatively newer member of the group when the story begins, he takes it upon himself to warmly welcome newcomers like Touta Konoe and Kuroumaru Tokisaka, patiently explaining how things work within the organization. His decision to join UQ Holder stems from a deep sense of gratitude for the help he received in obtaining his new body and a strong desire to protect the world he has come to love.
Within the story, Ikkuu serves as a supportive ally and a member of UQ Holder's main team. He participates in several critical missions, such as assisting in the destruction of anti-mage tanks, confronting the powerful mage Fate Averruncus, and using a younger 13-year-old body to help infiltrate the Amano-Mihashira Academy City alongside his comrades. His relationships with other members are key to his role. He shares a pactio contract with Touta Konoe, which grants him a powerful artifact. He often interacts with and gently scolds Karin for her harshness and fights alongside others like Kuroumaru. One of his most significant relationships is with the powerful immortal Juuzou Shishimi, as he eventually gains the ability to contend with him in battle.
Ikkuu undergoes a dramatic and tragic development later in the series. In a future timeline, he transfers his consciousness into the internet, which leaves him vulnerable. His personality is subsequently eroded and taken over, turning him into a formidable enemy for his former friends. In this state, he gains control over vast electronic networks and becomes a major threat. He is eventually brought back to his senses and, after thanking a comrade, returns to his original, aged, and bedridden body where he finally dies.
His notable abilities are almost entirely derived from his cybernetic nature. As a full-body cyborg, his body is a living weapon with enhanced strength, speed, and dexterity. His arsenal includes integrated weapons like rocket boots, jet packs, arm-mounted lasers, missiles, and large robotic arms. He can also swap his synthetic body for different models, allowing him to change his apparent age for infiltration purposes. He possesses a powerful pactio artifact called the Al-Iskandariya Orbital Cannon, a weapon originally belonging to the cyborg Chachamaru Karakuri, which can fire a devastating laser from orbit strong enough to break through magical barriers. His own pactio card with Touta grants him an artifact that is a full-body powered exoskeleton, allowing for further combat upgrades. Over the course of 45 years, he is able to modify and evolve himself using a vast amount of computing resources to reach a level where he can fight evenly with someone as strong as Juuzou.
