Description
Jack Rakan is a prominent character in the UQ Holder! series, distinguished as one of the key figures returning from the earlier manga, Negima!. He is famously known by his epithet, the Thousand Blades, a testament to his legendary status as a mercenary swordsman whose strength rivals that of the legendary mage Nagi Springfield.

In terms of appearance, Rakan has a tall and powerfully muscular physique, which gives him a fiercely intimidating presence. He has darkly-tanned skin, sharp golden eyes, and long, spiky light-colored hair with prominent bangs. His typical attire consists of a red bandana worn around his head, an open red shirt, tan pants, and simple brown shoes.

Within the story of UQ Holder!, Rakan is initially believed to have lost his life in a great battle that occurred before the main events of the series. He is later shown as part of a group accompanying Negi Springfield, who has been taken over by the malevolent entity known as the Mage of the Beginning. It is revealed that Rakan was not killed, but rather was corrupted and taken under the control of the Mage of the Beginning during its fight with Negi. In this state, Rakan and the others serve as powerful subordinates who come into conflict with the protagonists of UQ Holder!, including the main character Touta Konoe. His role is that of an immensely powerful antagonist who blocks the path of the younger heroes, demonstrating his fearsome combat abilities that made him a legend.

Regarding his key relationships, Rakan has a deep connection to Negi Springfield, having fought alongside him and ultimately been corrupted while trying to assist him. He is also identified as one of four legendary heroes from the previous generation, alongside Yue Ayase, Nodoka Miyazaki, and Albireo Imma, who were all thought to have perished. The narrative suggests a shared history between Rakan and Evangeline A.K. McDowell, as he acquired a scroll containing a piece of her soul, which allowed him to learn the forbidden technique Magia Erebea.

Rakan's development in UQ Holder! is largely tied to his fall from being a celebrated hero to becoming a tool of the Mage of the Beginning. He stands as a tragic and formidable obstacle, representing the power of the previous era now turned against the new generation.

His notable abilities are extensive and cement his reputation as an unstoppable warrior. He is a master of Pactio, a system that grants him a powerful artifact called Ho Heroes Meta Chilion Prosopon, also known as The Hero of a Thousand Faces. This artifact is incredibly versatile, allowing him to transform it into any shape he can imagine, including any kind of weapon or suit of armor, with its only limitation being that the created weapons do not possess their own special abilities. Rakan also has knowledge of Magia Erebea, a forbidden dark magic originally created by Evangeline A.K. McDowell. This technique allows the user to absorb spells and take on their attributes, but because Rakan's own nature is aligned with light, he is unable to use it properly or completely. Beyond magic, Rakan is a formidable physical fighter. He can manipulate his ki, or life energy, to reinforce his muscles, making them harder than steel. He has also demonstrated the ability to shape this ki into solid constructs, such as a giant arm of chi energy, which he invented on the spot and used to throw his enemy a vast distance.
