Description
Ernesti Echevalier is the main protagonist of the mecha fantasy story. Originally a brilliant programmer and a deeply passionate mecha enthusiast named Kurata Tsubasa in modern-day Japan, his life ended in a traffic accident. He was then reincarnated into a new, fantastical world as the son of a noble knight runner family, retaining all the memories and knowledge from his previous existence.

Upon being reborn, he was given the name Ernesti, often shortened to Eru. Physically, he is characterized by his short stature and distinctly youthful, feminine features, which often lead to him being mistaken for a girl. He has mauve or silver-toned hair styled in a bob cut and deep blue eyes. Despite his delicate appearance, his personality is driven by an all-consuming obsession.

Ernesti is defined by a single-minded, one-track devotion to Silhouette Knights, the giant humanoid robots of his new world. He is usually composed and quiet, but this demeanor instantly transforms into one of unrestrained excitement and forceful determination whenever his passion is ignited. His primary motivation is to design, build, and pilot his own ultimate Silhouette Knight, a goal he relentlessly pursues from childhood. He sees the magic of this world as analogous to computer programming, a perspective that allows him to innovate in ways natives cannot. His aesthetic code dictates that robots should only be fought by other robots, and he views the supremacy of mecha on the battlefield as paramount. This sometimes skews his priorities, as he is less concerned with traditional ethics than with his personal ideals of mecha aesthetics and functionality.

In the story, Ernesti serves as the primary agent of change, driving a technological revolution that had been stagnant for centuries. He enters the Royal Laihaila Academy, where he excels as a child prodigy, and quickly forms a close-knit group with his childhood friends, the twins Adeltrud Addy and Archid Kid Olter. Despite his genius, he can be slightly confused when others do not immediately grasp his innovations. He deeply cares for his friends, demonstrated by his support for the twins, who are illegitimate children, and he is fiercely protective of them. While Addy openly displays affection for him, Ernesti is largely oblivious or dismissive of romance, as his mind is perpetually occupied with mecha, a trait that persists even as he matures.

Ernesti's role evolves dramatically as his accomplishments pile up. He begins as a student, but after slaying powerful demonic beasts and creating revolutionary Silhouette Knight designs, he earns the favor of the king. His ultimate goal is to obtain the forbidden knowledge of how to build an Ether Reactor, the core of a Silhouette Knight. To prove his worth, he successfully builds an original Silhouette Knight from scratch as a child. His feats in battle and development ultimately lead him to be given command of his own knight order, the Silver Phoenix Knights, even before finishing his schooling. His development is less about emotional growth and more about the realization of his ambitions; he starts as a reincarnated otaku with a dream and ends as a national hero and the head of his nation's technological research and development, essentially becoming its last line of defense.

Ernesti's most notable ability is his genius-level intellect as a Gadgeteer Genius and programmer. He leverages his past life's skills to re-contextualize magic as code, allowing him to learn spells in months that take lifetimes and to invent entirely new magical applications. He is a master of combat both on foot and while piloting his custom Silhouette Knights. His fighting style is aggressive and innovative, often utilizing multi-armed designs with extra weapons that he created himself, such as his personal ace custom unit, the Ikaruga. Because his designs are radically advanced and often require extremely complex controls, many of his prototypes are considered impractical for anyone but him to pilot. Nonetheless, his creations are so effective that they become legendary, with his own Silhouette Knight being given the moniker Kishin, or "demon god," by his enemies.
