Description
Batson Termonen is a character from the mecha fantasy series Knights & Magic. He is a young boy of the Dwarf race, which is reflected in his notably small and sturdy stature, tanned skin, and red hair. Hailing from a family of craftsmen, he is the son of the owner of the Termonen Workshop, a small factory.

Before entering the Laihiala Pilot Academy, Batson was frequently bullied by his peers due to being a dwarf. While dwarves are typically strong, Batson struggled with his slow speed, which made it difficult for him to fight back. He was rescued from this situation by Ernesti Echevarria and the twins Archid and Adeltrud Olter, which led to them quickly becoming close friends. Initially, Batson intended to inherit his father's workshop, but his friendship with Ernesti sparked a new dream within him: to become a Knightsmith, a specialist in the creation and maintenance of the series' giant robots known as Silhouette Knights.

In terms of personality, Batson is characterized by his dedication to his craft. As a mechanic and smith, he is the one responsible for fixing the machines that his friends pilot, a task that is made more demanding by their intense and often reckless training regimens. While he may complain about the workload, with remarks such as I am the one who fixes that, this experience forces him to deepen his understanding of the machinery. He is frequently pulled along by the ambitious and unconventional ideas of his friend Ernesti, which he has gradually learned to accept over time.

Batson's primary role in the story is as a technical specialist. In the early days at the academy, he used his skills to craft magical wands for his friends, including Ernesti's Winchester and Kid, and Adi's wand, Gundova. After enrolling in the Crafting faculty, his focus shifted to the production and development of Silhouette Gears and their weapons. He became a founding member of the Silver Phoenix Knights, serving in its Knight Smith corps under the senior mechanic David Hepken. During the later stages of the Great Western War, Batson took on a new role as the helmsman of the Gilbavel, an anti-air ramming ship.

As the story progresses into the era of airships, Batson's responsibilities expand significantly. He was semi-forced to take command of the construction of the levitating ship Izumo, which became the mother ship for the airships of the Silver Phoenix Knights. Although he nominally remained under the authority of Captain David Hepken, this effectively made him the independent head of the Shipbuilding Department. This new position, while a promotion, was incredibly stressful, leading Batson to increase his alcohol consumption considerably.

Batson's key relationships are central to his development. His closest bond is with Ernesti Echevarria, a genius whose passion for Silhouette Knights drives much of the group's innovation. He is a loyal friend and collaborator to the twin pilots Archid and Adeltrud Olter. He also has a significant senior-junior relationship with David Hepken, the head of the Knight Smiths, from whom he learns a great deal about maintenance. While he is a highly capable mechanic for Silhouette Knights, his true expertise lies with Silhouette Gears, the magical engines that power them. Because he developed and tinkered with these systems alongside Ernesti, his knowledge of them is exceptionally deep, even if he lags behind David Hepken in general knight maintenance skills.
