Description
Archid Walter, often called by his nickname Kidd, is a supporting character in the anime Knight's & Magic. He is introduced as a childhood friend and close companion to the protagonist, Ernesti Echevalier, and is the twin brother of Adeltrud Walter, who is known as Ady. Physically, Archid is depicted as tall with spiky black hair and brown eyes, and his typical attire includes a maroon coat accented with white and gold highlights. As a member of a noble family, his background is somewhat complicated; he and his sister are the illegitimate children of a marquis, born from a relationship with a woman not of equal standing. As a result of this, the twins were separated from their father and raised in a distant town, a fact that shapes their identity as they grow up away from the main family line.
The core of Archid’s personality is defined by his loyalty and sense of duty, particularly toward those he cares about. He is a dependable and earnest individual who takes his responsibilities seriously, especially as a knight. This is most clearly demonstrated in his relationship with Princess Eleonora, whom he serves as a personal knight. When he finds her in a state of despair after the fall of her kingdom, Archid refuses to abandon her, insisting that his duty is not just to rescue her physically but to make her feel secure under his protection. He carries her to safety and later escorts her on various outings to lift her spirits, proving himself to be a kind and steadfast presence in her life. Beyond his formal duties, Archid enjoys the adventurous and often chaotic path that his friend Ernesti sets them on, following him into challenging situations with a sense of camaraderie and trust.
Archid’s role in the story is primarily that of a key supporting fighter and a loyal friend within the Order of the Silver Phoenix. His journey begins in childhood when he and his sister first meet Ernesti. The story of their first encounter is memorable: Ady, attempting to run away to avoid meeting their new stepfather, slipped and nearly fell from a rooftop, only to be saved by the young Ernesti. Impressed by Ernesti’s magical ability and dedication to training at such a young age, the twins asked him to teach them, forging a powerful friendship that becomes the foundation for their future as a team. As they grow, Archid trains rigorously alongside his sister and friend, and his skills as a Silhouette Knight pilot develop significantly. By their middle school years at the Royal Academy, his abilities were acknowledged by his peers to be on par with, or even surpassing, older students like Edgar, a testament to the effective training he received under Ernesti.
Throughout the series, Archid develops from a young boy in a complicated family situation into a capable and honorable knight. While his sister Ady is often more openly affectionate toward Ernesti, Archid’s development is more focused on his growth as a warrior and a protector. He does not possess the same level of genius as Ernesti, but his competence in combat is heavily respected by those around him. He is a natural and skilled pilot of Silhouette Knights, and his fighting ability is a crucial asset to his unit. His character represents the reliable, grounded member of the main trio, providing a stable and heroic counterpoint to Ernesti’s more obsessive and unconventional approach to mecha development and piloting.
