TV-Series
Description
Kouhei Katsuragi is a first-year student at the Advanced Nurturing High School, originally assigned to Class 1-A. He is a tall young man, standing at 180 centimeters, with an imposing build and a completely bald head, a physical trait caused by a childhood illness. Orphaned at an early age, he grew up alongside his younger sister, and that personal history fostered in him a serious, disciplined, and quietly determined nature. His dedication to self-improvement allowed him to enter the prestigious school as one of the top representatives of his class, a position he earned through persistent effort rather than innate privilege.

Katsuragi’s personality is defined by a strict adherence to rules, propriety, and good conduct. He values order and despises needless provocation, once publicly reprimanding a classmate for mocking students from a lower-rank class. When Ken Sudou, a contentious figure from Class 1-D, was being goaded, Katsuragi intervened with calm and direct advice, telling Sudou not to be easily baited. Though his steady tone was meant to de-escalate, his sheer presence and uncompromising gaze intimidated Sudou into backing down. That moment revealed a man who, despite his rigid exterior, does not look down on those from less privileged classes and is willing to engage with them fairly when their treatment strikes him as petty or unjust.

Within the intense class-based competition of the school, Katsuragi initially served as one of two major power figures in Class 1-A, standing opposite Arisu Sakayanagi. While Sakayanagi operates through cunning and often provocative schemes, Katsuragi represents a more conventional, merit-based approach, relying on diligence, strategic thinking, and a strong moral compass. His motivations are rooted in security rather than conquest: having experienced loss early in life, he prizes stability and the welfare of those he considers allies. Achieving and maintaining a high class rank is, for him, a means to protect his future and, by extension, his sister’s well-being.

His role in the story expands beyond his original faction. During a special exam, he was placed in the Dragon Group alongside prominent students from other classes, including Ryuuji Kanzaki, Kakeru Ryuuen, Suzune Horikita, Yousuke Hirata, and Kikyou Kushida, an experience that showcased his ability to navigate cross-class politics without compromising his principles. Over time, internal dynamics within Class A, notably the continuing conflict with Sakayanagi, eroded his standing, and he eventually made the unprecedented decision to voluntarily transfer out of the class. Through a legal point transaction, he moved to Ryuuen’s former Class C, where his strategic mind and high Overall Academic Ability score made him an immediate asset. This shift represented a major development, transforming him from a rival faction leader into the brains behind Ryuuen’s reborn class, operating from a position of genuine trust and necessity.

Katsuragi’s key relationships are defined by contrasts. With Sakayanagi, he shares a history of mutual recognition and strategic rivalry, a relationship marked by political maneuvering rather than personal animosity. His rapport with Yahiko Totsuka, a loyal follower, underscored his earlier leadership style: paternalistic and principled. Later, his alliance with Ryuuen becomes central. Where Ryuuen rules through fear and cunning, Katsuragi provides calculated, reliable strategy, and the unlikely partnership grants him a fresh platform to prove his worth without abandoning the code of conduct he holds dear. He also harbors a quiet respect for capable students like Suzune Horikita, having observed her growth during their shared exam group.

Notable abilities include analytical intelligence, crisis management, and a talent for long-term planning. His academic abilities are officially rated highly, and his decision-making skills are among the best in his year. While his physical capabilities are only rated average, his commanding presence and unwavering composure often intimidate opponents before any conflict begins. Katsuragi is not a master of deception or psychological games; his strength lies in methodical problem-solving, clear moral priorities, and the ability to maintain cohesion even when operating within a class notorious for internal strife.

Throughout the series, Katsuragi demonstrates steady personal growth. He evolves from a rigid representative of a top class, isolated by his own code, into a flexible strategist who can accept help, adapt to lower-class conditions, and serve a leader whose methods once stood in complete opposition to his own. His journey illustrates that competence, when untethered from pride and class advantage, can find a second life in unexpected places, and that a person raised in hardship can become a guardian for others without sacrificing the discipline that shaped him.
