TV-Series
Description
Morganit is a Gem from the world of Land of the Lustrous, characterized as a beryl-type gemstone with a distinctive pink color scheme and long, voluminous hair. They have a hardness of 7.5 on the Mohs scale, placing them in a moderate range among the Gems. Their appearance is typically shown with black shorts, a white shirt under a black top, a black tie, and black heeled shoes; they wear their hair in a ponytail during warmer seasons and braid it before sleeping.
In terms of personality, Morganit is described as overconfident, brash, and somewhat naughty, often making quick decisions without hesitation. They are energetic and possess a mischievous streak, frequently teasing Phosphophyllite, the protagonist. This straightforward and sometimes rough manner of speaking is coupled with a genuine care for their fellow Gems, and their bold actions are often motivated by a desire to protect their companions and serve their master, Kongo-sensei. Despite their outwardly rough demeanor, there is an underlying sense of responsibility and a wish to make things easier for Kongo-sensei.
Within the story, Morganit serves as a patrol Gem, tasked with watching for Lunarians alongside their partner Goshenite. They are an active combatant, experienced in fighting the moon-dwelling invaders, and are part of the community of Gems living on the shore. Their role in the early part of the narrative is to represent the older, more capable Gems who regard Phosphophyllite's weakness with a mix of irritation and affectionate teasing. Morganit's early disappearance, being shattered and taken to the moon by Lunarians, acts as a significant turning point that underscores the constant threat of loss in the Gems' world.
Key relationships define Morganit's story arc. Their primary bond is with Goshenite, their partner on patrol. The two share a close and complementary dynamic, with Morganit's boldness contrasted by Goshenite's calmer nature. Another important relationship is with Phosphophyllite. Morganit teases and is blunt with Phos, but they also share a friendly, almost sibling-like connection, playing together and expressing a form of tough affection. To Kongo-sensei, Morganit shows respect and a desire to please, even when their antics occasionally draw scolding.
Over the course of the story, Morganit undergoes a significant development through the concept of replacement. After the original Morganit is taken to the moon and lost, a new Morganite eventually grows from the earth. This new version has a starkly different, more reserved, shy, and introverted personality compared to the original's boisterous nature. The second Morganit struggles with the shadow of the original and is more hesitant and quiet, creating a complex narrative about identity, loss, and the continuation of a name without the same memories or character.
In terms of abilities, Morganit is a capable fighter with experience in battle against the Lunarians. Their specific combat skills include the use of a weapon, typical of the Gems, and their physical form is durable enough to engage in direct combat. They are also skilled in patrolling and reconnaissance, having been assigned to watch the shore for threats. Their moderate hardness gives them a degree of resilience, though they are not among the hardest Gems like Bort.
