Description
Jack L'éventreur is the captain of the Green Mantis squad of the Magic Knights in the Clover Kingdom. He is a tall, lean man standing at 197 centimeters with gold eyes and loose, medium-length black hair. A distinctive thin, red scar or birthmark runs down the left side of his face, from his forehead across his eye and down to his chin. Born a commoner on June 1st, he is 28 years old and of O blood type.

Jack L'éventreur possesses an aggressive and unrestrained personality, seemingly driven by a profound love for combat and destruction. He is almost always seen with a menacing grin and has a habit of licking his magic blades, which reinforces his wild and slightly disturbing demeanor. He is highly competitive, particularly with his fellow captain Yami Sukehiro, and displays an arrogant streak, often treating those he deems weaker with a lack of patience. Beneath this savage exterior lies a deep-seated loyalty to the Clover Kingdom and a strong sense of duty as a Magic Knight. Having risen from humble origins himself, he actively seeks out and incorporates commoners into his own squad.

Jack L'éventreur's primary motivation is the thrill of cutting things and facing powerful opponents. His entire being is oriented towards battle, and he possesses an almost sadistic enjoyment in testing his blades against formidable magic. This drive is not merely for violence but is intrinsically linked to the nature of his own magic, which only grows sharper and more effective the more it clashes. He is incredibly proud of his ability to sever anything, and this serves as his core reason for fighting: to prove and refine that capability against any challenge.

As a captain of the Magic Knights, Jack L'éventreur plays a vital role as one of the Clover Kingdom's most powerful defensive assets. He is almost always deployed to the front lines during major conflicts. He first appears alongside the other captains to greet a returning Wizard King Julius Nova Chrono. During the Elf Reincarnation Arc, he fights alongside Yami Sukehiro and Finral Roulacase, defeating numerous elves and engaging the elf-possessed Langris Vaude. His ability to adapt and cut through spatial magic proves crucial in this fight. Later, during the Spade Kingdom Raid Arc, he is selected as a key member of the elite strike force assembled by Nacht to confront the Dark Triad. It is here that he faces Dante Zogratis, using his adaptive magic to counter the overwhelming power of Gravity Magic and even bypassing high-level regeneration.

The most significant relationship in Jack L'éventreur's life is his intense rivalry with Yami Sukehiro, the captain of the Black Bulls. The two are constantly bickering and competing, with Yami giving him nicknames like "Vertical Weirdo" and "Long Man". Their rivalry is so fierce that a casual fight between them once razed an entire mountain. Despite the constant antagonism, this relationship is built on a foundation of deep mutual respect for each other's strength. When Yami is captured, Jack immediately demonstrates his loyalty by attempting to mount a rescue, proving their bond goes beyond simple rivalry. He also shares a unique dynamic with Nacht, being one of the few captains who knew the vice-captain's brother, Morgen.

Throughout the series, Jack L'éventreur undergoes significant development by consistently rising to meet threats that initially seem insurmountable. He struggles against Langris's Spatial Magic but ultimately adapts to cut through it. The pinnacle of his development occurs during the battle against Dante, where his Severing Magic evolves to match the Gravity Magic, turning the tide of a fight he was losing badly. This ability to adapt and overcome is the core of his character progression. Tragically, his journey ends during the final confrontation against Lucius Zogratis when he is mortally wounded by Morgen, who has been resurrected as a Paladin. He delivers a final blow before succumbing to his injuries, cementing his legacy as a warrior.

Jack L'éventreur's notable ability is his Severing Magic, also known as Slash Magic. This allows him to create powerful, scythe-like blades from his mana, typically extending from his forearms. The most unique and feared property of his Severing Magic is its reactive evolution. As his blades clash with an opponent's magic, they continuously adapt, sharpening themselves to match the nature of the target. This enables him to eventually cut through almost any defense, including Spatial Magic, Gravity Magic, and even recuperation magic from otherworldly sources. His relentless offensive style is amplified by his proficiency in Reinforcement Magic, which he uses to boost his physical strength and speed, making him a terrifying close-quarters combatant. His signature techniques include Death Scythe, a powerful cleaving slash, and Lunatic Slash, a chaotic flurry of flying slashes.
