Description
Secre Swallowtail, originally known as Nero in her bird form, is a character whose history stretches back five hundred years. She was born a noblewoman and served as a loyal attendant to Prince Lemiel Silvamillion Clover, the first Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom. When a great tragedy threatened Lemiel's life, Secre made a desperate choice. She used forbidden sealing magic to save him, which resulted in Lemiel being sealed into a stone statue while Secre herself was transformed into an anti-bird, a small creature that retained her consciousness but lost her human form. For centuries, she lived as Nero, silently observing the passage of time and guarding the demon-dweller sword, waiting for the moment she could fulfill her promise. She eventually crossed paths with Asta, a boy who wielded an anti-magic grimoire tied to Lemiel's legacy. Secre began following Asta closely, guiding him at crucial moments and collecting magic stones needed to undo the ancient seal. After the events of the Elf Reincarnation arc, she finally freed Lemiel and was able to regain her human body.

In terms of personality, Secre is reserved, pragmatic, and highly observant. Centuries of solitude have made her stoic and quiet, rarely expressing strong emotions. She speaks little and often appears expressionless, but her actions reveal a deep sense of duty, loyalty, and a quiet kindness toward those she trusts. She does not seek attention or praise; her sense of purpose has always been focused on the tasks she deems necessary. After regaining her humanity, she had to relearn how to live as a person, including simple aspects of daily life such as eating and sleeping among others. Despite her reserved nature, she develops a protective attachment to Asta and the other members of the Black Bulls, who accept her without judgment.

Her primary motivation for most of her existence was to protect and eventually free Lemiel, a goal she carried across five centuries. After that mission was completed, her motivation shifted to finding a new place in the world. She chose to remain with the Black Bulls, not out of any grand ambition, but because the squad welcomed her as family. This decision represents her growth from a being defined entirely by the past to someone willing to embrace a future alongside new companions.

Secre's role in the story is multifaceted. She acts as a living bridge between the present-day Clover Kingdom and its ancient history, providing knowledge about the first Wizard King, the elves, and the origins of the demons. In battle, she functions primarily as a support mage, using her abilities to protect allies and contain threats rather than engaging directly.

Her key relationships include her bond with Lemiel, which shaped her entire early life and sense of duty. Her relationship with Asta grows from one of quiet observation and guidance to genuine friendship and loyalty. She also forms a connection with the Black Bulls captain, Yami Sukehiro, who accepts her without question and gives her a place to belong. Other squad members such as Noelle Silva and Gordon Agrippa also become important figures in her new life, helping her reconnect with her humanity.

Secre's development is unique in that her major emotional climax occurs relatively early in her reappearance as a human. The moment she unseals Lemiel and finally completes her five-hundred-year mission is the peak of her original arc. Afterward, her growth centers on learning to live for herself rather than for a long-past duty. She gradually opens up, becomes more comfortable in her own skin, and learns to trust others enough to form genuine bonds. The physical mark of her forbidden magic, the small horns she wears known as Weg, serves as a constant reminder of the price she paid, yet she carries it with dignity and does not seek to hide it.

Secre's notable ability is Sealing Magic, a rare and powerful form of magic that allows her to open things that are closed and close things that are open. She can seal wounds to keep someone alive in critical condition, seal dangerous objects or people, and even contain devils. She can also unseal ancient locks that no ordinary mage can break. Her magic requires precision and often involves the use of ancient stones and artifacts. She also demonstrates exceptional knowledge of history and magical artifacts. In her bird form, she retains her awareness and can observe and interact with the world, though her magical capabilities are limited until she returns to human form.
