Description
Dorothy Unsworth is a witch from the Witches' Forest who serves as the captain of the Clover Kingdom's Coral Peacock squad of the Magic Knights. She is a petite young woman with fair skin and lilac hair, standing slightly below average height. Her appearance is strongly reminiscent of a traditional witch, as she is almost always seen wearing a pointed witch's hat adorned with a garland of natural flowers around its base. Her outer cloak is fastened with a flower-shaped brooch, and she completes her outfit with pointed shoes that match the deeper shade of her squad's coral color.

Dorothy possesses a cheerful and high-spirited personality when awake. However, she is almost perpetually asleep, a trait that defines her public persona. She can be found sleeping through nearly any situation, including captain meetings, the Magic Knights Entrance Exam, and the Star Awards Festival. Despite her constant slumber, she remains remarkably aware of her surroundings. She is able to vote during the entrance exam and walk from place to place while asleep, suggesting a unique connection between her sleeping state and her consciousness. When she does wake, her demeanor shifts dramatically to being very energetic, lively, and talkative, often mentioning that she is in the prime of her life.

As a captain, her motivations and sense of duty are tied to protecting the kingdom, though her role is often exercised in unconventional ways due to her sleeping habits. Her daily responsibilities are largely managed by her vice-captain, Kirsch Vermilion. Still, she takes decisive action when necessary, typically during major battles or when her unique magical abilities are required.

Dorothy's role in the story is significant both as a powerful Magic Knight captain and as a figure connected to the larger lore of the world. She originates from the Witches' Forest, much like Vanessa Enoteca and the Witch Queen. Her personal history becomes deeply intertwined with the elf reincarnation arc, as she is the human host for the elf Reve. This possession forces a confrontation where Dorothy must battle for control within her own magical domain. After the elf is exorcised, Dorothy plays a crucial role in the aftermath, leading reconstruction efforts and later revealing the truth about the death of Noelle Silva's mother, Acier, to Noelle within the safe confines of her dream world.

In developing relationships, Dorothy's most notable connection is with the elf Reve. While Reve is a possessor, their eventual battle within the Glamour World leads to a unique understanding rather than pure animosity, as Reve catches a glimpse of human goodness during their fight. Dorothy has also shown a willingness to share critical knowledge with younger knights like Noelle, acting as a mentor of sorts. She has a cordial, if not distant, relationship with her fellow captains, who are accustomed to her perpetual sleep during their meetings, much to the occasional annoyance of Yami Sukehiro.

Dorothy's character development is most evident during the elf reincarnation arc. After being possessed, she is able to manifest within Reve's Glamour World to fight her. Their battle, which involves both using the same Dream Magic, becomes so intense that the dream world collapses. This experience, and Dorothy's subsequent awakening, show her resilience and inner strength. Following this event, she takes a more active role, helping with the kingdom's reconstruction and engaging in high-level strategic fights. Later, during the final arc of the manga, Dorothy achieves a major milestone by volunteering to become the new Witch Queen after the previous Witch Queen uses the last of her power. She reasons that she has already lived a full life in her teens and twenties, implying that Vanessa still has her own journey ahead of her.

Dorothy's notable abilities center on her incredibly rare and powerful Dream Magic. Her signature spell is Glamour World, a technique that traps targets in an alternate, seemingly infinite dream dimension. Within this world, anything Dorothy can imagine becomes a reality. She can create weapons, creatures, or any object to attack or defend, and can even manifest copies of people from the memories of those trapped inside. The Glamour World has several dangerous properties. Those inside gradually grow drowsier against their will, and if they fall asleep, they will never wake up again, making it a potentially lethal ability. The world is also isolated from the outside, which can nullify certain types of curses. However, the ability has limitations. Dorothy cannot control chemical reactions or natural consequences of her creations, nor can she manipulate the magic of her opponents. She can unintentionally manifest things if an opponent tricks her into thinking about them, and the world itself can be destroyed if pushed beyond its limits. Users of dimensional magic or spatial attacks, such as Yami Sukehiro's Dimension Slash, may also be able to escape. As a squad captain, she also possesses an immense amount of magic power and the ability to levitate.
